Assalamu alaikum! I'm a new revert, and I have a few questions about Ramadan. First off, Are there any special ways to pray/certain things to say while praying during Ramadan? At what time are you supposed to break your fast? What time does Suhur start, and is there anything specific you should eat? Can you eat anything for the meals that break your fast, or are there only certain foods? Thank you so much in advance for your help! Insha'Allah we'll all have a wonderful Ramadan this year!
Welcome to Islam my dear, may Allah swt make this Ramadan easy on you. :)
As far as special ways to pray, it's just the normal five prayers during Ramadan. Muslims just are on their best behavior during this month, so they make sure that they pray all five rather than skipping around. However, some Muslims will also pray special prayers at around 3am called tahajjud prayers, which are voluntary prayers that bring special rewards because it's believed that Allah swt is closest to us during the last third of the night. Here's what the Qur'an says:
And during a part of the night, pray Tahajjud beyond what is incumbent on you; maybe your Lord will raise you to a position of great glory. [17:79]
Suhoor starts before the sun rises, so you would eat your breakfast before you pray fajr. Just make sure that you eat a big, healthy breakfast and drink lots of water. You break your fast (this meal is called iftar) as soon as the sun sets. Normally, the fast is broken with dates and apricot juice, which is something that the Prophet (saws) did. Otherwise, for both meals, you can eat whatever you'd like, so long as it's halal of course. Just make sure you drink plenty so you stay hydrated. The first few days are the hardest, but once those pass you will get into the groove of things and insha'Allah it'll be much easier.
Keep checking back with the blog, as we will be posting not only healthy meal plans for Ramadan, but other advice and whatnot about this awesome month, insha'Allah. :)
Anytime love, please let me know if I can clarify anything for you. :)
