Wasnt Wisnt - Disassembling
Already Dead
2021
“Precedent Analysis: The Barcelona Pavilion", Barcelona, Spain [1929] _ Architect: Ludwig Mies van Rohe / Designer: Lilly Reich _ Student: Aleksandra Kwietniewska / BA3 _ 22.10.2020
BAS2 _ Transformative Spatialities _ 2020-2021
The first module starts with implementing a “kit-of-parts” method, which is basically a simple, 3-step procedure, in order to enhance drawing and modelling skills straight from the beginning:
1. Drawing: Students will start by analyzing precedents of architecture, focusing on their structural, spatial, and contextual qualities. 2nd- and 3rd-year students will be given specific architectural precedents selected by the tutors, varying in complexity.
2. Disassembling: The precedents, once analyzed, will be “disassembled” through a “kit-of-parts” design approach. A certain design “tactic” needs to be clearly demonstrated and communicated by the student through drawing and diagramming.
3. Reassembling: A transformative reassembly of the original parts will take place at the new, proposed site of intervention, based on the given programmatic and contextual limitations of the site’s topography. Arbitrary constraints can be added to those already given by the site and the programme.
How does this happen? To fall in love and be disassembled.
The English Patient, Michael Ondaatje
