At this point, I have no heckin’ idea. That’s the problem, ahah. XD 

That’s why I keep turning back to this theory even when I try to get it out of my head. No matter how hard I try, I simply cannot get the image of how the structure of its face highly reflects Steven’s design out of my head, (why have such a stark similarity if there’s no connection whatsoever??), and I cannot fathom what its tie to the character development arcs would be if not deeply Steven-related. I can’t think of how any other possibility would be as emotionally satisfying a climax/ending for this show.

The thing is, since its the only thing moving in that shot that’s a clear message to me that it’s set to be “the Big antagonist” of the series, much like Yellow Diamond once was in the extended theme song. Which means it’s going to be Important and likely one of the last conflicts the show will tackle. And sure, political intrigue and Gem origin stories, and all of that is cool to think about- but it’s not what this show’s very foundation is built upon. No, this show’s story- at its purest core- is about Steven. It’s about the story of a boy growing up surrounded by magic and thousands of unanswered questions about the past and the world he lives in and him having to figure out his place in all of it. It’s his coming of age. 

He’s the soul of this series.
