An 8-year-old child has died following infection with the toxinogenic diphtheria strain bacterium, media report on Thursday. The child did not have the necessary vaccinations. It is the first death caused by the diphtheria bacterium in Greece in decades. The disease has been eradicated due to vaccination in all developed countries. Greece’s health services are on high alert, awaiting the autopsy results.

The child was reportedly taken to Children’s Hospital Aglaia Kyriakou in Athens with severe respiratory problems on November 22 and and passed away later four days later, on November 26.

The case became known after a doctor at a private hospital posted about it.

Recently, anti-vaxxers got popular in Malaysia especially among the majority Malay couples who are trying to be modern but are ignorant and have access to the internet; so much so that the government Islamic agency that oversees the Islam do's and don'ts of the religion in the country has to issue an order for these parents to vaccinate their kids since it's NOT AGAINST ISLAM and is compulsory.

So this is what’s been happening lately. 

Do you know what was the groundbreaking discovery in medicine? Not antibiotics or transplants or stem cells or whatever. It was vaccination. That thing that helped eradicate some of the deadliest contagious diseases and helped keep the rest of them under control. Because a few hundred years ago a pandemic could wipe out a big part of the world’s population.

But you do not appreciate that anymore. No, because now you live in a world where most people are immunized and these are diseases of the past. So why obey the evil doctors and vaccinate you children when you can see your kid has not been vaccinated and is just fine. But your kid is fine thanks to the 95% of the people around him that chose to vaccinate. Your kid is fine because of herd immunity. And that immunity is dropping everyday because more and more parents refuse to vaccinate their kids. So cases like those above start to appear. And when you repeatedly come in contact with a disease, it won’t only affect the unvaccinated ones, but also the ones vaccinated a long time ago or who have temporary low immunity or who are unfortunate enough to catch a serious virus strain. Not to mention the immunocompromised.
