Hey, me again. Basically I discovered your work a little while ago and I'm obsessed. I've fallen HARD back into a Sebastian Stan/Bucky Barnes hole.
Anyway, I had a question. Where does the use of 'doll' come from? It's something I've seen across different writers and I just wondered if there was some cool story behind it, or just that you can all hear Bucky using it.
Anyway, super enjoying your writing and it's inspired me to crack out the fanfiction notebook I have stashed away.
So thank you <3 <3
Hi, lovely! I don't know if there is a specific story behind it (lovelies, please feel free to correct me or chime in!), but I believe "doll" was a term of endearment in the 40s and people began to associate that with something they believed Bucky would use. I know MANY of us continue to use it for Bucky and I also know there are a good chunk of fans who find it overused or just don't care for it.
I do use it a lot and I’m trying to branch away from it in certain AUs. There are only so many pet names that can be used and I, personally, don't like put Y/N in my writing. I've never done it. That's why some of my readers get "names": Petal, Sweets, Luna, Alice, Sunshine, etc. I haven't shared the pet name yet for the Barnes Triplets, but it's one I haven't used before.
I'm glad you've busted out the notebook! More to come soon. Love and thanks! ❤️
