Opening on January 12th, 2023 at Dinner Gallery in New York City is artist Anna Ortiz's solo exhibition, "Hacia Aztlán."

Oritz pulls inspiration from the architecture of Mesoamerican figures, particularly deities with ambiguous identities (how she sees herself), and Aztec and Mayan mythology and historical narratives that have defined current states of being. She was raised in Worcester, Massachusetts, but almost every summer would visit Mexico, giving her the sense she lived between two cultures. This feeling gets translated into her work through the invented dream-like environments the figures reside, based on Mexican landscapes. Ortiz sees the paintings and the figures within as guides moving one along a surreal landscape reminiscent of the borderland between Mexico and the US. They exist in duality - between life and death, real and imagined, and time and space. She invites the viewer to travel with her on the road to self-discovery.

Currently on view until March 5th, 2022 at Dinner Gallery in New York City is the three person exhibition "Fertile Plains" featuring works by artists Madeleine Bialke, Saskia Fleishman, and Kelsey Shwetz.

The artists in "Fertile Plains" present a saturated landscape that questions our relationship with the land. Madeleine Bailke subverts the anthropocentric perspective and explores humans' relationships to nature. The end results are landscapes that feel both familiar and strange simultaneously. Related, Kelsey Shwetz presents a post-Anthropocene landscape where the only figure is the viewer and thinks about climate change. Meanwhile, Saskia Fleishman rotates the horizon line to provide an alternative way of thinking and identifying our memories embedded within landscapes.

Eric Standley’s “Songs for the Living” at Dinner Gallery.

Currently on view at Dinner Gallery in New York City is artist Eric Standley’s solo exhibition, “Songs for the Living.”

Standley creates incredibly intricate labor-intensive laser cut-paper sculpture, he refers to as artifacts. Acting like an archeologist, his artifacts are uncovered slowly, through the building up of layers of paper until they form objects that allude to those already in existence but not yet found often.
