biography

simply put, minhee was a people pleaser. he didn’t know when to say no, when to put his foot down, when to step up for himself.

from the endless routines his mother forced both his brother and him, minhee never said no and never complained. he quickly learned, even from a young age saying no to their mother wasn’t really an option. it wasn’t like anything bad would happen and if it did, he made sure to burry it so far down he forgot about it. after all, it wasn’t a bright life living under the care of a not so successful actress as a mother and a father who had no say in anything. too busy working so he could provide for the family and his wife's wacky needs and wants. the more minhee had to think about it, the more he cherished and aimed to protect his brother.

however, maybe it was because he was so quiet and his mother walked over him like it was nothing for his brother to dislike him. maybe that was when he should had stopped and stepped up for himself, but minhee didn’t have it in him to say no. at least not yet. he keeps quiet and he listens to their mother, never saying anything back.

things don’t go down well, his brother gets scouted before her, their mother shows her favoritism yet again but he keeps quiet. he has to keep quiet because he has to catch up. so he works harder than before, keep even quieter than before. after all hard work paid off, right? that’s what minhee had hoped for, that he would be recognized soon enough. it happens, quicker than he can think of it. less than a few months, he gets scouted to the same company as his brother. following that is the trainee selection for a survival show which his brother doesn't make and that strains their relationship even more. despite the extra work he puts into both his brother and training, minhee falls short. his brother leaves not long after, refuses to deal with his younger brother being better than him. arguments follow, screaming and yelling, stress, negative feedback from coaches, his mother back breathing against his neck, it all comes crashing down on minhee too quickly and he breaks his silence. he is no more fifteen when he deems his relationship with his brother and mother as permanently ruined. he didn’t think anything was going to fix it as he cried his heart out in his father's arms. all his fault. everything always felt like his fault.

it was too late to back down, another few months and minhee makes his appearance on a survival show between dimensions and gold star. it wasn't bad per say, he felt like it was set up, the trainees that they were against older, much more experienced and ready to debut. heck, they were preparing to debut. it was set up but he kept his his positive attitude, loud, bright and cheerfully. any publicity was good publicity, right?

to say that the first few years of their debut were soul shattering would be an understatement. despite his bright personality, words and actions, the result from the public about him was lackluster, nit felt like they were there to just tear him apart. it was fine in the beginning, the idea that hard work paid off. it wasn't until polaris began to gain popularity that minhee began to struggle. rumors about the way he got into dimensions, his parents paying for his position, all sort of bullshit that made his blood boil. from a promising dancer, someone who worked what felt like endlessly on polaris's dance, to stand his ground as one of the two main dancers in the group, to just someone with rich parents really took the passion out of minhee. the want to be on stage, to dance, to see their fans. he feels like those comments are everywhere it takes its tool on him.

the following years aren't easy, with schedules seeming like they will never end, only for more to appear when the end seems close, a few injuries, a few breakdowns, a few lipsyncing controversies, nothing dimensions isn't able to reply to but minhee knows his image is slowly being stained. the need to keep his happy-go-lucky image gets harder and harder to pull, but he does his best because his company pushes him to, and minhee doesn't know when to put his foot down. the smile is there, but it doesn't reach his eyes, there isn't a spark in it anymore.

it took too long for him to realize what was happening with him because of the industry. with their initial lackluster success, netizens constantly  there to tear him to shreds, minhee was very much aware that the addition of his own self destructive tendencies would be the end of him. despite all the effort he put in, all the countless hours he spends in the studio, dancing, singing, working on himself it takes him actual years to finally realize his own worth. it takes a while, a long while, but he keeps moving forward and the idol industry and netizens force him to grow a backbone. they force him to get thicker skin, to make sure he could handle it. he was a patient person, however, there was only so much he could take. so out of spite, pure spite, he decided to take care of himself. to not let the industry devour him whole. he resigns, out of spite.

nowadays, minhee isn't a people pleaser. he is still a hardworker, maybe works even harder than before with the expansion to the western market. the difference was that now, he knew when to say no, when to put his foot down, when to step up for himself, to take a break if needed. he worked on bringing himself back up on his own two feet and he didn't plan on allowing anyone else to bring him down again.

image & career

dancing, that had been minhee's main strength since he can remember very clearly being told that by their coaches, the judges of next generation survival. he was never perceived as a visual, a good of a singer, thanks to his lead vocal position, however, he was a great dancer and dimensions pushed for it. he didn't mind one bit, it was what he felt most comfortable in. being the main dancer of polaris, he was allowed very early on to give input in their choreographies, encouraged to an extend. so he grabbed onto whatever dimensions pushed in his direction and the more they grew into their career he was allowed more and more freedom to work on the dances for their comebacks, being able to work on title tracks as well.

dimensions has done a good job at pushing minhee and his personality as a 4d idol, however, it was quickly switched to just the hpapy-go-lucky member, always smiling and loud, ready to do jump head first to any new challenge. his looks and height helped emphasize it, always ready to show off aegyo or hop onto any new trend, often deemed as the fake maknae of the group, but minhee never really enjoyed that title. with the change of direction in music, concept and market, minhee began to grow out of his cuter and brighter personality, the industry sucking the positivity out of him. despite that fact, dimensions still pushed for him to be the happy go lucky member of polaris and doesn't think of stopping that anytime soon.

future

after years of being in a slump thanks to the public and anti's tearing into him for any minor mistake or something he did and they didn't like, minhee finally got himself back on his own two feet. with the renewal of their contracts, he had made it his goal to continue under dimensions and polaris out of pure spite to all the people that like to talk bad about him. he is 100% confident when he says he lost his teenage years and early twenties allowing others to dictate his life without knowing him, he is ready to live to the fullest in his mid twenties onwards. he plans on expanding his choreographing to other groups as well, has hopes of going on a dance show, model, maybe try and produce something, go solo.

he’s the youngest, and you know what they say about the youngest) ⍨ ? irresponsible and wild. (like father like son.) his great grandfather built an empire, now a conglomerate that his family still holds power in. nearly 60 years in their family. seyun’s father would have made the 3rd generation to take the helm. only when his grandfather was fit for retirement, his dad blew it off. nothing like nepotism and generational gap to create a distance between filial duties.

seyun grew up hearing about how his father was a disappointment to his father before him. almost as often as he heard about the fact that it left either he or his older brother in line to mop up that spilled milk. maybe it was all the years of being spurned but seyun’s father over the years had receded more than a hairline. in parenting responsibilities (left entirely to seyun’s step mother), in mental and emotional health, and in some measure of his sanity too if the rumors have it.

male father figure? replaced by musicians, who always spoke to him more (metaphorically speaking), comforting him day in and out.

being raised by busy people gives a kid a lot of free time. expanding his mind means learning hobbies like putting on new shoes. none of them catch his father’s attention, but that’s not surprising. just like their family brand doesn’t interest sejoon, neither does his own son. but seyun does capture the eye of his grandfather, often spoiled from a young age. even young he catches on that maybe the cookies and cars are less about seyun and more about the empty throne that his no-good father had left collecting dust. grandfather talks about retiring and leaving their family in his hands often (when seyun is just 12 years old), and it becomes an annoying routine.

looking for escapism allots him a lot of mind bending occupations for a kid. once spent a week bottled up in his room painting figurines. it’s the drum sets that nearly get him thrown out of the gigantic estate his family stows away in. empty rooms make for excellent reverb though.

during his “wanna be a rockstar” phase, he picks up a singer-songwriter mantle, and surprisingly it clicks.

he auditions for multiple companies at 13 and fails. apparently, learning to sing within a year means his talents are not just raw they’re undercooked. after almost giving up (should he continue his renegade path like his father, or do what his grandfather no doubt wants), he decides to keep fighting his good fight (his father might approve, but his step mother urges him to be more sensible. to give their grandfather the heir that her husband had been afraid to do (she whispers this to him when his father is working like it’s their little secret). seyun hadn’t the heart to tell her that he was more like his father than she imagined.

around 15 years old, he tries again to make music work for him. the only of his many hats that seemed to fit the way he liked. his singing voice had barely improved, but what did make leaps and bounds from his last paradigm in disaster auditioning, was his stage presence. the star power he thought he had hidden beneath the veil. though not every company sees his potential, he lands a spot and with it, the courage to continue his winding path.

he comes a long way and grows during his training. the way his group is thrust into the spotlight suits him just fine. more chance to thrive from the chaos, to make something out of nothing and know for sure whether he made the right choice. that’s still in the air, even when the shit hits the fan. but at least he has the results of his hard work.

If asked why Wooram complied with the idea of becoming an idol, it all happened because of his parents. Not out of love, but out of pure pressure instead.

Wooram was their trophy golden boy to show around when convenient, and affection was never a part of their contract, only if showing it off to others. There was always a more important meeting or a client that required their full attention. Wooram was perfectly capable of handling himself despite being very young, and there was always a friend or two who tagged along when he wanted them to.

Wooram did well at school. His grades were adequate to show off to their associates at parties. He was the captain of the basketball club, and he even developed a liking for arts and dance. A perfectly well-rounded young man, meant for great things and attention. He grew up with others telling him that, enough to make him believe it.

Misbehaving would be understandable in a situation like this, especially if his parents’ attention was what he wanted out of it but, as Wooram grew older, he noticed it was purposeless. It didn't matter how many times he behaved recklessly. Or how many times he got scolded by teachers at school. As long as it was a controlled situation and no one out of their family knew about it, Wooram was free to do as he pleased.

Because of the way he was raised and taken care of, Wooram couldn’t understand what was their reasoning to have another kid. His little sibling might as well be the one person who he doesn’t direct his anger towards despite everything. He knew it sucked to grow up in that family and having someone remotely ordinary would be great. There were nights he wished having a sibling would make things easier for him, but it never worked that way.

Thinking back at it, it was a stupid idea to apply out of anger. The only reason Wooram didn't give up and left Dimensions, was because they ended up thinking it was a good idea to become a celebrity and get more connections to that world. And once he got in, there was nothing his parents wouldn’t do to keep him in there. It was stupid that he took that first step to have hours and more hours of practice and forced diets and classes he never wanted to take. There’s a lesson there to be learned, but Wooram simply won’t acknowledge it.

No one should have that kind of responsibility at the age of 15. The fact that Wooram endured three more years until finally debuting on Mars just proves that he’s either dumber than people assume or way too resentful to say he made a mistake about becoming a trainee.

once upon a time…

there was a boy called Kim Jinyoung. Born and raised in Seoul, living peacefully and thriving in the tunes surrounding his whole family. His mother a musical actress, his father a conductor and his sister a dancer, soon to be hopefully be idol, tiny Jinyoung almost falls too easily into theme. Picking up whatever instrument was thrown at him, opening his mouth to sing any kind of tune his mother or sister would show him, he stays excited and open minded to the wonders of music. Having melodies and theme songs accompany his whole upbringing from classic music over theatre soundtracks to the latest kpop; nothing goes by his ear and everything finds its way onto his i-pod, into his playlists.

Especially his sister is the one he’d consider his primary role model. Having an amazing voice and fabulous dance moves, Jinyoung was aware he was biased when he called her an outstanding talent but it was no less true. Thus he is left more and more surprised when year after year she can’t seem to pass a single audition, puberty not being exactly kind to her and deeming her ‘too ugly’ for the idol lifestyle.

Years pass and when a knee injury causes her to stop dancing all together, Jinyoung’s word shatters along with her own. For he had managed to get into a company. Street casted by dimensions when he was only 14, the guilt ate him alive when he saw how his sister had to bury her dream of becoming what Jinyoung was training to be.

He had almost quit right then and there if not for her adamant nagging and actual yelling for to see this through. Always supportive and adoring her little brother, the female swallowed her own grief in favor of allowing her brother to thrive, wishing nothing but happiness and joy for him and his future. She remained by his side, even when she left the country for university. Remaining a consistent pillar of support as puberty hit him and made him hide his vulnerability behind a mask of sass and confidence well practiced over time.

When finally at the age of 20 he managed to debut with unity, she was right there as well in the first row, holding up a sign in bright neon letters to cheer for him, proud tears in her eyes. He too shed some that day, determination to do well and make her proud rising within him. No matter how hard his journey would be, no matter how disregarding to every other person he’d seem- for his sister, he’d endure it all. He’d live his dream- their dream.

If you asked their mother, she would say milk was born determined. bullheaded, really, but not incapable of those great things they aspired to. when they discovered music, the creation of it, and the feeling of completeness it was able to give, they never wavered in their pursuit of the art. writing songs was the norm by the time they were ten, and their lyric notebooks filled up ever quickly. songs about hopes, dreams, aspirations and love they wouldn’t know for years yet were the most common by far.

if you asked their father, milk grew up to be passionate. so passionate they left home at just thirteen. their voice and sincerity were a quick draw to dimensions and they passed an open audition with flying colors. in south korea, they continued their pursuit, writing songs, bettering their voice and learning new skills. for four years they trained and finally, finally they debuted with a girl group. they weren’t an instant success by any means, but they got by with a little recognition. it would be late in their careers that 7rophy would start to approach their peak, and as much as milk was excited about it, they noted that other members’ lyrics and compositions were favored heavily over theirs. what had they worked so hard for, if not to have their own songs heard?

if you asked their brother, milk became unknowable. years passed and familial contact became rarer and rarer. in 2020 they discovered their father was in poor health, having had a major stroke that left him with partial paralysis. their parents had agreed to keep it from them, but their brother had made no such promise. seeing his sibling seemingly living in luxury, an angry phone call clued them in and an immediate sense of guilt weighed heavy.

your earliest childhood memories are sitting at your grandfather’s side watching his weathered fingers plucking the strings of the guqin eyes wide with fascination. your grandparents fed into your love of music and soon enough you were learning to play the guqin too.

your grandfather always watched with you practicing with fond eyes. “you look so much like your father.” he would say with a hint of sadness in his tone. you never knew either of your parents as your father died of cancer not long before your birth and your mother passed while bringing you into the world.

however, your grandparents made sure you never wanted for love in your life. your early life was a quiet one and you were fine with that.

you hadn’t been planning on trying out. you just saw that auditions for a place called dimensions entertainment were going to be held nearby. you’d never really thought about becoming an idol let alone an idol in korea. but the more think you about it the more you think it might be fun.

when you tell your grandparents your grandmother is skeptical. however, your grandfather is sure that you have a shining future ahead of you. eventually he convinces your grandmother to let you try it.

you live eat and breathe practicing for the audition after that. you prepared several raps and a few dances. whatever free time you have is dedicated to practice. and when the day arrives you feel as if you might get sick at any moments because of the nerves.

but somehow despite your nerves you manage to pass the auditions.

when you arrive in south korea you are seventeen years old and all alone. you understand not one single word of the language. the adjustment period is rough and you often find yourself crying out of frustration and homesickness.

when you finally begin to understand what the people around you are saying you wish you could back to the days when you didn’t. “you’d be so much more handsome if you just dropped some weight.” “you need to work on your accent or no one will understand you.” “you’ll never be able to debut if you don’t learn to sing better.”

the lines about your weight are a constant. there’s always something more you could be doing about making sure you don’t gain weight. it becomes a sore spot when anyone brings it up. even the compliments when you meet your weigh-in goals begin to feel like barbs that dig under your skin.

nothing you do feels good enough. you almost consider giving up and going home but your grandfather assures you that you can make it through this. so you grit your teeth and work hard to prove them all wrong.

you’ll get to debut soon. the date they first give you is sometime in 2015. that’s fine with you, it gives you more time work on your pronounciations. and then suddenly you don’t have time at all. with alien’s lawsuit dimensions wants to have a spare to fall back on.

the backlash feels unfair. not only are alien’s fans upset but even amongst the fanbase that dimensions is trying to build for mars there are naysayers. people who claim that they can’t understand you, that you should never have been made the main rapper that it should be the youngest instead. people who tell you you should just go back to china and stop ruining the group.

they aren’t a huge majority, realistically the people who say such things are a hateful minority. but it doesn’t feel like it. and it still hurts. and it once again feels like no matter what you do you can’t win against them.

I.

Nam Chunhwa is born at the height of Argentinian spring, which is exactly what has her parents naming her Chun Hwa, spring flower. From day one, she’s a fussy baby, crying more often than not and driving her parents crazy. A complete contrast to her sister, Chunhui, who’s born four years later, also in spring, who’s all smiles and easy laughter from the moment she leaves the maternity ward. Their parents adore them both and even with the age difference, they are fast friends. Chunhwa has very little recollections of those days but when she’s there, happiness is a given.

Chunhwa is seven when the phone rings in the middle of the night. Old enough to understand, she leaves her room to find her grandmother answering it. She remembers her parents leaving for a date night, remembers her grandmother coming over to look after her and Chunhui while they are out, and, more than anything, she remembers the ear piercing scream her grandmother lets out at whatever the other person in the phone call tells her.

(She learns what it was eventually, but it takes a couple of weeks for her to drill the information out of her family. It’s one of her cousins who explains to Chunhwa how her parents passed, how there was an armed robbery, how the person didn’t hesitate to press the trigger not once, but four times on each of her parents. Her grandmother yells at her cousin for telling Chunhwa about it, but she believes she’s better off knowing.)

Both Chunhwa and Chunhui move in with their grandmother, but less than two months after the funeral they are being shipped off to a new country. Chunhwa heard the argument her grandmother had over the phone as well, which concluded on both her grandmothers agreeing that it would be better for her and Chunhui to be raised somewhere else. Chunhwa doesn’t want to go. She throws a tantrum in the house, another in the car, and an extra one in the airport for good measure, but it’s all in vain as their aunt drags them both into the plane. When they arrive in Busan, South Korea, her aunt sticks around for a couple of days to help Chunhwa and Chunhui get settled, but then she’s also gone, and any proper reminder of their life in Argentina is also gone with her.

II.

Chunhwa makes her grandparents’ lives difficult from the moment she moves in. She goes through phases. First, she will throw tantrums about any and everything. She will refuse to eat what they expect her to, refuse to go to bed, refuse to wear the right clothes. She will misbehave in school, will act as if she doesn’t understand Korean, will get punished over and over again and none of that is enough to make her stop. That is, until her grandparents no longer show any reaction to her actions.

That’s when Chunhwa shuts down. For weeks, she won’t say a word to anyone but Chunhui. The school suggests her grandparents look into getting her some professional help and they dismiss it as her acting up. Things only improve when her grandmother arranges for Chunhwa to start ballet classes at the dance studio she runs. She argues Chunhwa is too old to be starting but that she can maybe learn how to behave if she does.

Chunhwa loves it. Not only ballet, but every other class she’s allowed to take. It’s like a switch is flipped ‒ she goes from dismissive of any and everything to completely enthusiastic about all the dance classes. Whatever time isn’t spent in school, Chunhwa spends it at the studio, even if it’s just so she can watch other classes she’s not yet old enough to join.

She turns out to be much better at it than her grandmother expected her to be. By the time she’s a pre-teen, Chunhwa is participating in dance competitions all across the country and winning them as well. A future as a dancer is pretty much the only thing she can think about doing.

III.

Chunhwa’s relationship with her grandmother never improves. A tipping point is when her grandmother decides to sell the studio in Busan and move to Seoul to run another studio there. She claims it’s a better city, more attractive for people looking into the arts, and although Chunhwa knows that’s true, she’s fifteen and honestly believes her life is perfect as it is, without her grandmother having to ruin it like this.

To make matters worse, Chunhwa and Chunhui get into a car accident one day when their uncle is driving them to school. It’s nothing extremely serious. Chunhui gets out of it completely unscathed, but Chunhwa breaks her leg in three different spots and the recovery time means she’s not allowed to dance at all for six months. Chunhwa blames her grandmother for it, claiming if they had never moved to Seoul, this would’ve never happened. In response, her grandmother forbids her from going to the dance studio at all, even to watch classes, until she’s fully recovered.

At one point, the boredom gets to her. Her grandmother tells Chunhwa to use this opportunity to put in more effort into school, but instead she spends more time at the music school where Chunhwa takes piano classes. It sounds like too much effort to start learning a completely new instrument, but Chunhwa starts taking vocal lessons to fill in her schedule.

She enjoys it enough that she sticks around after her leg gets better, even if it means sacrificing one of the many dance classes she would take in a week. Chunhwa also joins the school choir and when she graduates middle school and enrolls in SOPA, she decides that she spends enough time at the dance studio not to need to go down the dance route in school. Instead, she chooses the music track, which allows for her to further practice her singing.

IV.

Chunhwa is scouted for Dimensions in her graduation showcase. She’s given a solo stage, and it’s enough for the scouts to offer her an opportunity to audition for the company. Chunhwa’s plans originally were to either join a dance company and perform as a dancer for idol groups or to take a normal university route, but Chunhui talks her into auditioning, claiming that Chunhwa is the one between the two of them that should be going into the entertainment business.

She’s reluctant but relents, and she gets into Dimensions in early 2016. Almost immediately, Chunhwa wants to quit. It’s not about the treatment as a trainee ‒ she has an ex-ballet dancer for a grandmother, the trainers would have to try harder to faze her ‒, so much as about how obvious it is the company expects her to get along with the other trainees so she can debut with them. In a group, not as a soloist. In her mind, Chunhwa is convinced she’s enough of a good singer and dancer to debut completely solo, and it’s what she expects.

Instead, she’s put in a group. By the time it’s announced they are debuting as a group, Chunhwa can’t back down and she realizes she also doesn’t want to. It’s not the ideal scenario, but she wouldn’t have joined the company in the first place if she didn’t have some desire to become an idol.

When their debut gets scrapped, Chunhwa comes close to a complete tantrum. She’s not supposed to throw them anymore, not as an adult and she knows it, but she’s never grown out of the habit of wanting to yell at people when things don’t go the way she expected them to. Chunhwa had already settled for what she had considered was beneath her, and she refused to experience this once more.

Sticking around is fueled by the one thing worse than her stubbornness ‒ spite. Bitterness pushes her forward, pushes her into improving even further in the months between the scraping of their debut and the announcement of the new lineup. She thinks another member is unnecessary and it means sharing the spotlight with yet another person, someone she’s not at all used to or necessarily likes, but the decision is out of her hands and she eventually accepts it.

When they debut, Chunhwa is given a stage name. Bom. Spring, just like her name. Dimensions expect her to offer an innocent but charming image. Think Nation’s First Love, is what her manager tells her when Chunhwa asks what the fuck does that mean, the company just thinks with your looks you need to play up your charming side. Chunhwa doesn’t have the heart to tell her there’s very little charming about her.

Chunhwa is ambivalent about Lucid’s concept. From day one, she thinks it’s interesting that they are offering something different with the rock concept, but when it’s not taken well at all by the overall public, she’s neither surprised nor too bothered by it. A complete contrast to her reaction when their more innocent concept is immediately eaten up by the public. Chunhwa can’t help feeling uncomfortable by the outfits they have to wear, the way men will talk about them in public forums, and the knowledge that all of them see Lucid as pieces of meat for them to fantasize about.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Yoon Seola was expected to be a star from the moment she was born. She had always been an intelligent child, gifted if her parents would dare say so themselves. After all, Seola’s father was a figure skating coach in Canada, while her mother was a former ballerina. Meanwhile, her older sister was also an overachiever of some sort, so it only made sense that Seola was expected to achieve great things as well. As she was old enough to start understanding things, Seola had dabbled in many things such as academics, theater, and the two things she would come to love the most: music and figure skating.

Despite taking lessons with her dad ever since she was four, Seola began skating competitively in 2008 after seeing Kim Yuna on TV. At the time, she wanted to be the second Korean woman to win a medal for the country. She began competing on the domestic scale and a few minor international level competitions. Despite winning a few medals at minor competitions, there were other girls better than she was that she still had yet to represent the country in major competitions.

Seola continued to train and grow, and her dreams grew even bigger after Kim Yuna won the gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics. In August 2011, during the South Korea Trials for Junior Grand Prix, Seola placed 1st in the short program, and things were looking up for her. Unfortunately, she fell badly during the free skate, injuring both her hip and back in the process. Despite persistent hip and back pain, she pushed to compete anyway. When she had her back and hip checked after the competition, she was told that she had to give up skating if she wanted her back to recover properly.

The end of her skating dream had been the end of the world for Seola, until her mother had recommended that she takes up singing and dancing as a new hobby. Without thinking much of it, Seola had agreed. Mostly because she already had prior ballet training as a figure skater. What Seola didn’t expect was to discover that she can actually sing. As she learned to sing and dance, Seola never expected to actually fall in love with performing. It’s almost like a dream for her.

In 2012, Seola and her family had been on vacation in Korea when a Dimensions casting agent approached both Seola and her cousin. While her cousin jumped on it immediately, Seola hadn’t actually considered a showbiz career. After all, Seola had plans of being a lawyer or a broadcaster. However, this is a chance not many people often get, so Seola agreed to give it a go.

To her surprise, Seola actually passed the auditions. Although her cousin didn’t pass this time, they were still genuinely proud and happy for Seola all the same. Seola can only wish it was the same for her parents, who wanted her to enter a high-powered career as an adult. With this opportunity in hand, Seola’s parents had agreed to let her go, on the condition that she finished her education and got a college diploma.

To fulfill the end of her promise to her parents, Seola enrolled at Hanlim Arts High School for her final year of high school and juggled both being a trainee and a student at Sungkyunkwan University. Thankfully, not many people knew who she was, so she didn’t have to entertain too many questions.

Uprooting her whole life from Canada to Korea had been a major life decision for Seola to take, and the difference in culture was something to get used to. Thankfully, Seola’s background as an athlete has somewhat equipped her to be competitive, yet friendly with the other trainees in the company. There was a lot she had to work on, but she wanted to see this through. She braved every challenge, evaluation, and struggle that came her way. Seola was an athlete, so she had expected the trainers to be military sergeants. Regardless, she was determined to be the best there ever was.

Other than hard work and discipline, another skill Seola had taken from her student-athlete days to her student-trainee days was the importance of camaraderie and teamwork. Although competition for a spot in a future Dimensions girl group was intense, Seola went out of her way to be friendly and helpful to those with problems singing and dancing. She was the youngest child at home, so being a supportive younger sister to the older trainees is nothing new to her. However, being the older sister figure to the newer and younger trainees that came after she did was a new and interesting feeling.

To be honest, debut comes as both a relief and newly added pressure to Seola. Especially after her parents have been begging her to quit being an idol and go back to the plans they had before she auditioned. Seola knew what she was good at, but it surprises her that she gets to be the group’s leader as well as the main dancer and lead vocal. However, 7rophy’s lack of immediate success has led to Seola’s parents trying to convince her to leave the group and pursue a proper, better-paying career almost every time she talks to them. Every time they had a spark of hope that they finally struck gold, they ended up moving several steps backward. The girls of 7ROPHY deserve better than this, and Seola couldn’t help but feel that this was her fault. She failed the group as a leader and that she should have done better for them, even if she had no idea what that entailed. Seola wasn’t stupid, and she had heard of those disbandment rumors. Honestly, she couldn’t blame them. After all, they couldn’t produce the results 7ROPHY wanted and deserved. She would never admit it to anyone, but she was beginning to see the merit of her parents’ advice.

Seola’s not a quitter, and thankfully, their effort as members of 7ROPHY have begun to pay off. Thankfully, they finally seemed to be getting their stride after achieving their first win with “Latata”. She also graduated from college in 2019, which is a year or two longer than what her parents would have liked. In her time with Dimensions, Seola hadn’t exactly been pushed into the spotlight compared to the other girls. Honestly, her parents nagged her about this more than the group’s lack of success. No matter what she does, it’s like she’ll never be good enough. Other than a music video role and a song feature with MARS, everything she has expressed interest in doing outside of group activities — acting, musicals, OSTs, and variety shows — have been denied to her for various reasons. She supposed it was mostly to pacify MARS’ angry fangirls who were sick of seeing her face or the company thought she was a liability; she didn’t really know. It was hard staying at home while watching the rest of the group getting to do their individual activities. Honestly, Seola wondered where she went wrong in her life to be denied anything she asked for herself.

Because of this, she has more free time compared to some of the other girls. While she prepares for her moment to shine, Seola is trying to take on a more active role behind the scenes as she learns more about choreography and songwriting. Unfortunately, Seola is being denied opportunities in these endeavors at the moment. She knows she has something left to prove, but she has no clue what that something is.
