We have a master list of XML-RPC services. We searched up and down on web combining whatever lists we found online. The biggest sizes once went up to 700+ services with no duplication. But over the years many of them have gone out of business or ping service terminated. We cut all dead wood and slimmed down to about 350 services. Nowadays the list practically stops growing. Because very few people are entering this business due to its nature of having very low commercial value.

For worst the 350 services are not always online. With a decent ping tool on hands the checking is just a matter of few clicks for us. It is our routine task (monthly to quarterly) to submit tens of our websites to those XML-RPC services. About 100-200 success entries on average. We are selling this ping service online on Fiverr for just US$5.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a ping list for your Wordpress site, that is another story. Wordpress is pinging those service automatically on ping-per-post-change basis. For a busy blog, using on this kind of "mass list" will get you banned from their indexing service.

Every website owner wants to ping more in hope to get maximum exposure and be indexed faster. But be smart or you get your website banned!

Wordpress' built-in ping function sends a ping on per-post basis. There are quite a few "huge" or "massive" ping lists floating around the Internet. DO NOT USE THEM DIRECTLY ON WORDPRESS SITES. Because the lists typically include a lot "pointers" which are redirecting your feed to a distributed cluster. A "pointer" means it is not a page crawler itself, such as (http://ping.feedburner.com). It just redirects your feed to other real crawlers in a distributed cluster (ie. Google's family sites: blog, country-basis search engines.... etc).

So you risk being banned on Google if you pinging your frequently-updated Wordpress blog to both Google and Feedburner. Those "huge" ping lists, are getting you to do exactly this kind of duplicated pinging! Using those huge lists you practically are pinging Google a dozen times within seconds on the same single post. Google do not like this kind of duplication and the system will put you on its black list within a very short time frame.

The trouble is not on the lists, but on Wordpress. It is the very nature of Wordpress. It has a built-in XML-RPC ping function which can inform a list of search engines and blog directories to come indexing your newly created or modified blog post. Nice isn't it?

So the challenge here is to create and maintain (yes servers can go offline at times, temporarily or permanently; you need to care the latter) a ping list that gives you maximal exposure, least risk on duplicated pinging, and highest service availability. We maintain our Wordpress ping list publicly and update it every few weeks. Get a copy there and book mark that page if you like to get "fresh list" time after time.

There are quite a few websites claiming "latest ping list" or "ping list updated" or "huge ping list". Just they are seldom updated even on those affiliated with the official Wordpress operations. Randomly check on the liveliness on those services you will have half of them are dead. On the other hand, using those "huge" lists carelessly on your Wordpress sites will get yourself banned due to duplicated pinging.

You may remove any local engines you are not interested, as install the entire list as-is. We see no harm to submit your site to local search engines. At worst you site is rejected. But if you ping every now post to feedburner AND google.com at the same time frame, you site may be banned.

This list is optimized for Wordpress sites, or any blogging platform that has a ping-per-post nature. If you have other type of websites such as shopping cart which do not auto ping very frequently. Ping more and get indexed faster, but be smart to avoid being banned!
