Digital Snacking Reconsidered: FB Detox
I would hit CTL + T, and type 'F' for the URL to auto-complete. Hit 'enter' and begin my digital snacking on Facebook.com. Absolutely mindless short-keying, it's just like reaching into a bag of potato chips!
I just noticed myself hitting those short keys almost every hour of the day. And I'd literally jump across tabs and windows to get back to what I was doing before the newsfeed indulgence, only to find myself completely lost in the web. So, to 'decondition' myself and to observe how I feel without this media outlet in my life, I've finally decided to do an FB detox with a friend of mine as a personal experiment. We're detoxing from desktop, mobile and tablet platforms; the app has been deleted from our phones as well.
So far, I've thought about checking FB twice since I started this post. I'll be recording how often and under what circumstances I feel the urge to check FB, along with how long it might take for me to be unconditioned from this habit.
Smartphone is currently sans FB!!
