Imagine a world where, instead of the Internet, social media, and all that...
Music was only heard through the use of CDs, cassette tapes, vinyl records, and the radio.
Movies were enjoyed, either at the theatres, on VHS, laserdiscs, or on TV.
Video games were played at the arcade, or on home console, and when it was all dominated by Atari, Coleco, Intellivision, Sega, and Nintendo.
People communicated through either landline, pagers, cellphones (that were the size of a brick), or just in-person.
And last, but not least, home computers only existed at the time...with the likes of the Commodore 64, Apple Macintosh, or those big and bulky IBM PCs that ran on DOS (or Windows 1.0).
That would be the definite description of the setting for an idea I have in mind, inspired by one of the best Fairy Tail fanfic writers out there. Having read “Virtual Flames” by @missyplatina recently, I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like, if there was a FT fanfic set in a 1980s AU. So, I decided to come up with a visual concept for this particular idea. What you see in the image up above, is the aforementioned visual art concept. Indeed, these are vectors of floppy disks (which were used in the real-life ‘80s) that represent each of Lucy’s celestial spirits.
I pretty much spent a lot of time going through the process of creating and editing on Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, as well as going back and forth between that process, and consulting with tutorials and help guides online. Simply put: a lot of work and effort went into this.
