My Bi-Yearly Blog Post Where I Talk About Stuff! (I'm Still Alive! Almost Thriving Even!) [Part 1]
Hello again! It's been a good while since I made one of these. I've been doing all sorts of stuff since last time I wrote! This is gonna be a long one. And because I only get 30 images in a single blog post, I'll have to split this into two parts. So, strap in!
First off, I got a new job that I really like, and that's kept me PRETTY busy. It's my first time having a sort of ""email job"" but I still get to move around plenty, so it's a nice balance. BUT I've also even been going to the gym a few time a week! It feels great still so far!
That aside, I've still been playing tons of games, of course! Too many probably. And having spent my whole life with what's (probably) undiagnosed Inattentive ADHD, I've always struggled to actually finish many of the games I started. For example, as much as I was loving Disgaea 5 a while back, I still haven't finished that because I ended up shuffling games around.
Moving on!
One of the first big things I sunk considerable time into was was Samurai Warriors 4 DX! The Steam release of this caught me off-guard, but when I saw it, I bought it IMMEDIATELY because I really enjoyed the time I spent playing Samurai Warriors 4-II on PS4 some years ago.
I played a pretty good bit of this! And although I still haven't technically "beaten" it, I have cleared a handful of the campaigns! I refuse to touch Chronicle Mode though; it's pretty stanky & janky. The custom character mode in SW4-II was MUCH much better.
It's just such a joy to play this kind of game though. It really appeases my brain worms to have something so flashy and cool to play like this. Its VERY cathartic. Then you still kinda mix that in with some weapon farming and unlocking new combos and then some bits of strategy too? It's just so good.
The storylines are all really neat too for the most part with tons of betrayal and some intrigue; as was the style at that time in history.
Next would be Digimon World: Next Order! I managed to grab this on the cheap on Steam and I've been quite enjoying it!
Unfortunately, it kinda keeps getting pushed to the back burner whenever I start something else, so I'm really not that far into it orz. BUT what I have played I have been very much enjoying. I love my two lil' duders. I was pretty stoked to get a variant of Wizardmon. Garudamon also ended up being pretty cool. They died after a point, but are now a Tyranomon and a Veedramon; the chunky dino bros.
Sorta side-thing: I LOVE the Guilmon line! Mainly for Gigimon, Guilmon, and Dukemon. Dukemon is just so damned cool, but what's even COOLER is Dukemon X-Antibody.
Before picking up DWNO though, I actually started collected some of the Digimon devices! The Digimon X device was my first one! Then I bought (read: spent way too much on) a Color Pendulum! I really like both of these digivices a lot! They're pretty fun and they allow you to put your Digimon on ice for a while. This is pretty much a must because I have a full-time job and other times I just kinda forget.
If they could just make a version of the Digimon X devices with a dim backlight, I would be so ecstatic. I enjoy the leveling/quest mode in the X device a bit more over the Pendulum Color's one. Having to shake the Color Pendulum for attacks and training always leaves me worried I'll accidentally chunk it across the room.
I also ended up grabbing two of the 20th Anniversary ones! They're pretty nice too. Unfortunately, they do NOT allow you to put your Digimon in the freezer! Which means when you go to work, they'll be HORRIBLY neglected and shit themselves to death. This essentially means I'll never be able to play these properly, sadly.
Also huge shoutout to Humulos. This website is SO informative and well-organized as a Digimon device tool/resource. I'm very grateful for its existence. It has the digivolution paths, quest mode explanations, version exclusives, and more all listed on there. It's invaluable.
The next really huge thing I sunk time into was actually KH1.5! I bought the entire saga during the Steam Summer Sale. I replayed through it all pretty consistently and beat it in about 30-40 hours.
Kingdom Hearts has always been a series that's been present my entire life from the time I was about 10 years old. Playing this release of KH1, seeing all the new stuff added to the Final Mix, and reliving all the familiar memories made for such a great nostalgia trip. The game was a LOT tougher in the early game than I remembered though. But that's small-time griping; a nit-pick even. I did most things, but I didn't 100% it or get Ultima. I just didn't have it in me to grind for Ultima, and I'm glad I didn't because the final boss fight(s) turned out to all be so easy. Regardless, Kingdom Hearts 1 is still fantastically fun game and is still very much worth checking out.
What isn't fun though is Re:Chain of Memories. After just playing it for about 45 minutes I dropped it, hard. I opted to simply watch all of the cutscenes from it instead to preserve my blood pressure & sanity. Then I finally started KH2.5, which, I'm currently playing on-and-off still.
When I last played, I'd just finished the first episode of Agrabah and started in Halloween Town! I'm VERY much lookin' forward to playing through the rest of KH2.5 over the next month or two.
If you made it through all of this, then first off, thank you for reading my exhaustive stream of consciousness. Feel free to comment any thoughts or shared adoration or disdain for anything I've talked about here.
Also, there's going to be a Part 2 to this blog post pretty soon!
Yes, believe it or not, I actually have EVEN MORE stuff to talk about. So if you're hungry for more of my unfettered thoughts then be on the lookout :D
