Dumbledore is going down is a prequel to Voldemort is going down. Following the same characters (mainly Gabriel, Lux, Ezra, Julian, and Anya but also Nova, Kai, and Valentina), the story is set in June 1997, the night of the Battle of the Astronomy Tower and the days that followed, leading up to VIGD. The chapters will be posted out of order, following each @whumptober2019 prompt.

Whumptober #3 - Delirium (723 words)
One day late but here it comes, another chapter, this time set right before the battle, when the Death Eaters arrive.
The castle is dead silent. Ron has his eyes fixed on the Marauder map, Ginny and Neville looking at it from behind his shoulders. Ezra is pacing in front of the wall where the door of the Room of Requirement usually appears and against which Anya is leaning, whistling. Ezra is mumbling to himself, still looking pissed but neither Julian nor Lux are focused enough to talk to him. Theyâre both sitting on the bench, looking like two sulking children, their mind on Nova and Gabriel.
Lux doesnât understand why Julian is worried and frankly heâs starting to annoy her. Nova is safe. Thatâs the whole point. She cowarded out of coming to help the DA and right now, everyone knows where she is; in bed, hidden in the Hufflepuff common room, deep under the castle. Safe.
Gabriel however... Gabriel is nowhere to be found.Â
He replied positively to the call for help sent via the coin, just like Lux and all of the people that are standing around her at the moment. But since then, nothing. Lux expected him to arrive with Ezra, Anya, Ernie, and Hannah but when the group of Hufflepuff got there and he was nowhere to be found, she began to worry. The DA waited for him, tried to contact him again but Gabriel never replied.
âMaybe Draco attacked him,â Hannah had unhelpfully suggested, earning her a dark glare from Lux and a nudge from Anya.
Theyâve been standing guard in front of the door for almost an hour now and nothing has happened. Hermione and Luna left half an hour ago, to check on Snape but they both sent a message to let them know that their teacher hadnât moved from his office yet.
Lux just stood up in a fit of annoyance when thereâs a loud bang and the door of the Room of Requirement bursts open. The DA members all jump on their feet, wands ready, but itâs useless. They briefly catch a glimpse of Dracoâs head and then, the corridor is pitch dark.
Lux feels completely lost, all of her senses mixing up. She has her eyes wide open and yet, she canât see a thing. She feels caught in a delirium as around her she hears rushing footsteps and people yelling out.
âRon!â she hears Julian yell not too far from her. âWhatâs going on?â
âHow would I bloody know?!â Ron yells back, on their left.
âTheyâre running away!â Ezra screams from the floor, it seems, probably knocked down by the door when it slammed open.Â
âLUMOS!â Anya calls out but her spell is completely useless. âWhat the fuck!â
âIt must be Peruvian Powder,â Ginny informs them, sounding calmer than the rest of the group. âFred and George should really pay attention to whom theyâre selling their shit to,â she mumbles before adding a bit louder, âWe have to get out of here!â
All agreeing, the group starts waving their arms around to grab each other and move as one through the fog. Once they are all holding onto each other, Lux and Julian, at the head of the line, start stumbling forward and out of the dark, trying to follow Draco and the people that were with him.
âDraco wasnât alone,â Lux says, voice shaky. âThose footsteps... Do you think he was with Death Eaters?â
âOf course he was,â Ernie replies, half-annoyed, half-scared. âWho else could they be?â
âBut that doesnât make sense!â Neville replies. âIf Harry and Dumbledore are out of the castle, what are they here for?â
Nevilleâs question is met by a deafening silence. They keep on moving, stepping onto each others feet and bumping into each others back until they finally arrive at the end of the corridor and out of the darkness. The night is pitch dark and the corridors are only lighted by candles and torches but Lux still holds her hand in front of her eyes when they finally find back the light.
âWe have to get to the Order,â Ron instructs them, his eyes on the map. They all gather around him to see whoâs closer to them when Hannah yells, âHere!â
She isnât pointing at an Order member, however. Her finger falls on a bunch of names hurrying toward the Astronomy Tower. Among them: Draco Malfoy, Fenrir Greyback, and Bellatrix Lestrange.

Whumptober #2 - Explosion (675 words)
This new chapter is set during the battle, while the Death Eaters are upstairs.
The Order and the DA are stuck at the bottom of the Astronomy tower, trying to listen to what is happening above but not hearing a thing. Some of the Order members went back to patrolling the halls while the rest stayed to guard the tower and keep an eye on the DA.
None of them is talking, lest they miss something, but Anya has to admit, itâs getting a bit boring. She has no idea how much time has passed since the Death Eaters went upstairs but it feels like an eternity. And the worst part is that she has no idea what is going on or why they even went upstairs.
âThis is pointless,â she eventually lets out, earning glares from everyone. Rolling her eyes, she goes on. âWhat? We have no idea whatâs happening. For all we know they might have left!â
âSo they just came to the school to what?â Gabriel asks a bit annoyed. âWalk through a few corridors and jump from the Astronomy tower?â
Thereâs a loud bang that covers what Anya was saying and suddenly they hear the stampede of feet running down the staircase getting closer and closer. Then, itâs like an explosion and all the Death Eaters burst through the invisible gate that was preventing the Order and the DA from going upstairs.
âWatch out!â Anya hears Gabriel scream and suddenly, spells are bouncing off every wall.
Thank god for Felix, Anya thinks as she casts all the spells she can think of. Most of the Death Eaters stay behind to fight but Anya catches a glimpse of a few of them running away, some of them laughing. Then she sees Snape and Harry running after them and tries to call out to them. âProfessor! Harry! Wait! What is going on?â
Neither of them replies, of course, but Anya doesnât have time to feel offended, a mask Death Eater coming at her.
âWeâre on it!â she vaguely hears Ernie yell out to her and she decides that for now, itâs good enough.Â
Anya duels her Death Eater as well as she can but she quickly realizes that the only reason she is still standing is because of the Felix Felicis. Around her, the DA seems to be in the same situation. The Death Eaters clearly have the advantage here, and soon enough, Anya realizes that they are slowly progressing down the corridor.Â
âWe canât let them go!â she yells out as she sees someone crouching over someone else. In the dark however, she canât see who they are. âThey might be going for the rest of the school.â
âOh donât worry sweetheart,â the Death Eater sheâs been fighting tells her. âWhat needed to be done is done. Weâre on our way out now.â And with that he casts a spell that zips between her arm and her side, missing her only by an inch.
Powerless, Anya watches as the group of Death Eaters runs down the corridor.
âStay here,â Selene orders her as part of the Order, Nyx, and her, set off after the Death Eaters while the rest stand over four bodies.
âLumos,â Anya calls out, lighting up her wand and walking toward the group.
âAre you okay?â Fleur asks shakily, her French accent even stronger than usual, as she grabs Billâs shoulder.
Bill only reply is to whine, his hand covering his face, covered in blood.
âWhat happened?â Anya asks horrified as she notices that Gabriel and Neville are both also down, unconscious.
âWeâre not too sure about Neville and Gabriel,â Lupin explains to her. âBill, however... It appears that he has been attacked by Greyback.â
âIs he going to be okay?â Anya gasps and looks at Ginny and Ron, who both look pale.
No one says anything.
Shaking her head, Anya decides to take the lead of the DA. âOkay. Julian, Ezra, take care of Neville and Gabriel. Take them to the hospital wing. The rest, come with me, weâre going to try and find Harry.â

Whumptober #1 - Shaky Hands (1,074 words)
This first chapter is set after the battle, on the first day of Summer break.
Hogwarts students clearly have mixed feelings about going home. Going back home after a year at Hogwarts is always bittersweet but this year, Kai notices that the bittersweetness is even more present than usual. Some kids, mostly first and second years, talk animatedly in the compartments and on the platform once they get back to London, excited for their break, but mostly, the students all look pretty uncertain. Itâs a shift that Kai can sense and understands himself. When he got on the train, he felt like the castle he has known for the past five years wouldnât be the same once heâll come back next year and now that heâs officially back in London, the feeling is even stronger than before.
Theo and Blaise try to make him talk but Kai hasnât been feeling very chatty since that fateful night and today is no different. He only hums whenever it seems appropriate and his friends donât push him. Pansy is tagging along, of course. She has been that whole year, feeling left out by Draco doing... whatever he did, preparing for... whatever happened. Kai doesnât want to think about it, feeling a huge headache form every time he has stopped to think more than ten seconds about what went down on top of that damn tower.Â
He doesnât know what happened and he doesnât want to know what happened, is what he keeps telling Theo, Blaise, and the other students every time they try to bring up the subject in his presence. After the first few days, they eventually let it go, understanding that he didnât want to talk about it. At least not with them.
Kai hasnât talked to Gabriel since their fight - and break up, he thinks bitterly - that night. He caught sight of him several times in the days that followed, and of course, he went to visit him in the hospital wings but they havenât spoken. Gabriel hasnât even acknowledged him since then. At first, Kai felt sad and resigned but now that the initial pain has passed, he is more determined than ever to fix things. If he has to write to Gabriel every single day for him to talk to him again, then so be it, thatâs what heâll do. Thereâs no way the last words he said to him are the last words heâll ever say to him. Not those. He canât accept it.Â
The platform seems fuller than usual when Kai gets off the train but he figures thatâs because everyone and their mothers came to pick up their children, Dumbledoreâs death having scared the magical world more than anything else could have. He looks for Gabriel but only finds Carlisle at first, dragging Rose toward people who must be her parents, Rose looking like heâd rather be anywhere else but here. He sees Astor, then, saying goodbye to Cohen with a long hug that looks more intimate than friendly. Sage is talking to Caulfield and blushes as she kisses her cheek, while her twin and Norrington grossly make out against the train.
Kai grimaces. Gross.
It takes a few minutes but Kai eventually finds Gabriel. As soon as his eyes land on him, his heart stutters, his throat tightens, his hands start to shake, and he almost feels tears pooling at his eyes. Shaking his head at himself for reacting like that, Kai stares as Gabriel talks to his mother and their butler, Vincent. He looks tense and Kai desperately wants to know whatâs going on, wants to be there for him, wants to kiss away his tension, his worry, and his pain.
But he canât. Because theyâre not together anymore.
âUh, weird,â Theo says next to Kai, looking in the same direction as him. âMy aunt is here.â
âYou know why?â Kai asks, trying to sound as casual as possible.
Theo shrugs. âNo. I guess Iâll eventually find out. Not really my business and I donât really care so...â he trails off with another shrug. âIâm way past caring about what my cousin does. I guess it has to do with the battle. I doubt our family likes that he fought for Dumbledore of all people.â
âI guess not,â Kai replies absent-mindedly, eyes never leaving Gabriel as he follows his mother outside the station. âYouâre not going with them?â
âNah,â Theo replies. âIâm spending some time at Pansyâs with Blaise, and Milicent.â
âYouâre more than welcome to come, Kai,â Pansy chimes in immediately, snaking her arm through his.Â
âOh, er, thanks Pansy, but Iâll pass. Iâm going to spend some time with my family this summer. Sorry,â he adds quickly after when he sees the look of hurt and anger in her eyes.
âAlright, well I guess Iâll see you in a few months then,â she says sadly, pouting and batting her eyelashes at him.
Kai nods but doesnât really know what to say besides, âI guess so.â
Theo, Blaise, and Pansy say goodbye and then Kai is left alone in the crowd. Starting to feel claustrophobic, Kai pushes forward, hoping to find his parents soon so they can go home.
Miranda and William are waiting for him near the exit, talking with a tall, blond guy that Kai thinks he saw at the funerals. When he sees him coming toward them, the guy quickly says goodbye to Kaiâs parents and disappears into the crowd. Weird, is all Kai can think.
âKaius,â William lets out warmly when he sees their son, wrapping him in a tight hug that Kai feels himself sinking into.
âHey dad, mum,â he says as he is passed from his dad to his mum, the both of them looking as relieved to see him as he feels to see them.
âYou okay, Schatz?â Miranda asks him, noticing right away his sad face, despite the efforts he puts into looking okay. âWhereâs Gabriel?â
Kai shrugs, not really wanting to talk about it, even less so with his parents. âHe left with his mother.â
âReine Keita was here?â William asks, standing on his tiptoes to try and find her. Â âWhy?â
âTo pick up her son, I imagine,â Kai replies.
âOh well,â Miranda says, probably understanding more about the situation than she lets on, as always, âweâll have plenty of time to see him this summer, Iâm sure,â she tells Kai as she puts a reassuring hand on his cheek. âReady?â
âYeah,â Kai sighs out, thankful. âLetâs get out of here.â
I really want to do something really meta with Dumbledore is going down, like Julian being the most immature of the group (=/= in vigd where heâll end up being the most serious one, with the most experience) and Kai really hating Lux for being so close to Gabriel
This week, we are focusing on grey boxing and level designing.Â
Since last week, Iâve essentially changed my game idea but keeping the street and overgrowth concept and turning it into something more horror or an eerie-set up. After looking through Pinterest, I felt inspired after looking at small villages and long, winding shrines from Japan and I thought to bring the two aesthetics together with more leaning into Asian aesthetics.Â
(Click here for the Moodboard via Pinterest)
After the presentation, I was focusing on making a very linear street set-up to lead into the âfinalâ part of the level.Â
The different coloured boxes are more so for me to differentiate that theyâre different buildings rather than just one and see what I can play around with. The mushroom looking things are placement holder trees.
Iâve modelled a tree for the Tuesday class but I unfortunately lost it from one of the computers that Iâve used. :(

This week, we looked into the player experience and the types of players.Â
Iâve always considered myself a âgamerâ. Which, of course, should be expected considering that I took this major. However, the concept of âhardcoreâ and âcasualâ gamers always alluded me. In terms of games that interested me and spend most of my time on, Iâd say Iâve always been somewhat in the middle. It varies in some points in time depending on what game I play and what goals Iâve set up for myself. Iâve always felt competitive when it came to people out of my immediate friend groups that whenever someone (specifically a guy) talks about video games and being a âhardcoreâ gamer always felt like I needed to prove myself that my passions arenât discredited. Itâs really relieving to hear the discussion we had this week about it and that a lot of people agree that itâs not a very good label to put ourselves in.Â
Anyways, as Iâve started doing my concept art and so far, itâs been straying a bit away to fit my original ideas. It started out with me deciding on the Social Anxiety game and as I started drawing out the streets, Iâve become more fascinated with drawing vines and overgrown trees peeking through windows.Â
Iâve been looking specifically into the streets of Tuscany, Italy and their beautiful traditional stone buildings.
Today, weâve been given a brief to make a 3D game that focuses on environmental feel and story-telling.Â
Personally, Iâm not very good at drawing out backgrounds or designing an effective environment that isnât creating a moodboard or a general idea of what it would be. I do like games where you can explore and take in the environment, especially games like Persona 5 and the Yakuza series where the areas you run around in has a lot of personality and detailing to it.
So, Iâve got a couple of ideas when I start out: I want a game thatâs low-poly and easy for me to work with considering how very, very terrible and unconfident with my skills with 3D. Not that I do not prefer 3D, I always felt like I have trouble modelling and creating concepts that I would like to make. I felt thoroughly embarrassed that I couldnât model a simple spaceship in class. Due to my constant remaking and lack of confidence, I didnât take a screenshot for my blog.Â
The ideas Iâve thought out so far was:
a little alien crash landing on earth and everything is monochrome until they interact with things and theres color + sound
Social anxiety: the game - game where you are someone who tries to go outside and every crowd or person has like an invisible shield and prevents you from getting close. It makes it hard to move around.
References to be looking at are games such as Persona, Yakuza and Jazzpunk. Real life environment Iâve chosen to look into Japanese and Italian streets.
Found this game while scrolling through Tumblr and found that one of Undertaleâs leading artists, Temmie, has made a game. Curious as I was, I downloaded it and played it. As she said in the after-credits of her game and in her itch.io that itâs her first game and Iâm honestly amazed with how it turned out. This game serves as a âfeelâ for RPGmaker and some kind of a prequel to the game she plans on making in the near future.
This is a particularly small game, probably finished it around 15 or so minutes and thereâs not a lot to it and no puzzles for that matter. However, I do think itâs very engaging as a narrative game as youâre walking around the protagonistâs house, wondering where her parents are. Itâs very melancholic and the writing and the art successfully gives that impression. There are animated cutscenes that are amazingly done as a shoe in for more story within the short game. As Iâve said, it is quite a small game. You, as the player, interact with the environment and it gives a little bit of insight of your characterâs situation. I donât particularly think Temmie is going for an in-depth game and the goal of which is to have an emotional response to the story itself. I think she successfully did this well.
I suppose there really isnât anything I want to change about this game. Mechanics-wise. I think within each time your character wakes up, I think itâs best to have more dialogue to say about the environment to further state that there is definitely something wrong (spoilers) as the world slowly disintegrates each time you fall asleep. Otherwise, it is a simple and sweet game.
