Diary of a Space Archivist, from Beccy Stirrup @storytrailsuk , Is a cute, funny story about Sam, a young woman traveling around sector G-alpha essentially cataloguing the absolute nothing out the window. She wanted to be on the starship Voyager, looking for new life, but didn't make the cut. But hey, she's still in space (so there, mom!). Except 10 days ago, while Sam was asleep, the ship encountered a debris field and knocked out CAL, the ship's computer. Now CAL is finally booting back up and warning her about an "unknown entity". A loud trilling sound announces the presence of that entity, who Sam says looks like Puckmaren from the movie, "Flight of the Navigator" and after establishing it's not going to kill her, names them, Puck. How did they get on the ship? What does she do now? Does she report her find to the Corporation? Or will they dissect this odd, yet adorable alien? Well, if there's one thing she knows for sure, it's that Puck LOVES CurlyWurly candy bars. So as long as she has a supply of those, she can lure them places to hide them, if need be. Much as The Amelia Project made me seek out Maltesers, Diary of a Space Archivist makes me want to find CurlyWurlys. Caramel and chocolate? Sign me up! That's a winning combo that makes this American's heart go pitter pat. Diary of a Space Archivist is delightful. A bit lighter than, Girl in Space, the plot isn't necessarily deep, but akin to what I imagine a CurlyWurly is like, thoroughly enjoyable, and hitting just the right spot. I'd say it's appropriate for families as long as kids are old enough to understand basic concept of space; so...Flight of the Navigator aged? ( 😉) Go check it out!
