This was the grid that gave me the most trouble. I couldn’t come up with any patterns that worked well by using the single motif at a 45 degree angle. Therefore I put 4 motifs into a diamond shape and formed a V shape using the positive space within. This pattern has strong contrast and a clear figure/ground relationship. The thinner, less narrow zig-zag is slightly darker than the thicker, narrower zig-zag, making the two appear to be weaving in-and-out of each other. This gives the pattern a nice movement and continuity. This pattern doesn’t feel too unique though, as it is similar to my basic grid design, only less dense and busy. To include some variation, I made the outer points of the thick zig-zags only connect at every other diagonal row; creating a slight variation in the negative shapes.
