Regarding Character Surnames. Nationality and Racial Belonging
Why are the surnames "Sakamaki" and "Tsukinami" not used with the parents' names?
Sakamaki Kanato, Sakamaki Shu, Sakamaki Ayato... It sounds right, doesn't it? Sakamaki Richter, Sakamaki Cordelia, Sakamaki Christa... How awful, don't you think?
From anime, games, and other sources, we know that Karlheinz's six sons bear the surname Sakamaki. At the same time, it's said that this surname is only used in the human world and nowhere else. And also that the older brothers cannot bear it. How true is all of this?
Currently, the brothers live in the human world. Among their father's personas is that of the politician "Sakamaki Tougo" — this was mentioned even in the first game. That is, in the eyes of ordinary people, the six boys are the sons of this highly respected Sakamaki Tougo.
However, I have noticed multiple times that this surname is used in the Demon World as well, coming from the mouths of demons. For example, in the second game, Beatrix tells Shu that he is the "future head of the Sakamaki family" (MB Shu Ecstasy Epilogue), and in Dark Fate, one of the demons addresses Kanato as "Sakamaki Kanato" (DF Kanato Vampire End). And this action takes place in the Demon World.
The male vampire C calls Kanato "Sakamaki Kanato". The scene takes place in the Demon World. DF Kanato Vampire End.
And if we look at the fanbook for, say, the first game, in Cordelia's profile we see: "The first wife of the head of the Sakamaki family, Karlheinz." It turns out that not only the inhabitants of the human world know about this persona. So what's the deal?
Despite the fact that the surname Sakamaki is mentioned by demons as well, I have never noticed any of the secondary characters being called either "Sakamaki Richter" or "Tsukinami Gisbach." For now, we can assume that they are referred to as the "Sakamaki family" by the creators themselves for the convenient designation of belonging to one family — after all, we also have the Mukami and Tsukinami families. Speaking of Tsukinami:the combination of a purely Japanese surname and a purely English name also looks discordant — "Tsukinami Carla." But in the game, the brothers introduce themselves as returnees who left England, and this at least somewhat explains it.
But what about the Sakamakis? And why were the parents given European names, while the children were given Japanese ones? In Dark Fate, the creators corrected this flaw. It is hinted at in Shu's route and explained in detail in Yuma's route that vampires actually have true names¹. Thus, Shu's vampire name is Lilie: the German word for the lily flower. In Lost Eden, Kou's true name is revealed to be Emilio. Yuma, as we know, was formerly Edgar.
The surnames "Sakamaki" or "Tsukinami" are never used together with the names of any of the older generation: Karlheinz, Cordelia, Beatrix, Christa, Richter are not Sakamaki, and Gisbach, Krone, Mene, Fersen are not Tsukinami.
Whereas the names of the main characters are listed in the fanbooks as 'Reiji Sakamaki', 'Yuma Mukami', 'Carla Tsukinami', the secondary characters are listed simply as 'Karlheinz', 'Cordelia', 'Beatrix', 'Christa', 'Richter'.
MEANING OF THE SURNAMES
•「逆巻」 = [sakamaki] = "Sakamaki"
「逆巻く」= [sakamaku] means "to surge/roll against the current (of waves)". It's essentially a hint that the family is going "against something". There is also another interpretation I noticed a long time ago but initially didn't include in the article. 「逆」 can be translated as "reverse, against", and one of the meanings of 「巻」 is "to wind (a clock)".
This alludes to how Karlheinz turned back time again and again, winding his clock of time. However: 1. This only started from the second game, but already in the first game our boys were "Sakamaki"; 2. Still, a complete phrase is a complete phrase. Although the creators could well have noticed a specific play on words within the surname, which they might have used while developing the scenario for More,Blood.
The Sakamaki family crest features the 「祝福の剣」 = "Sword of Blessing" (CD drama Sadistic Song vol.5 + annotation). It was passed down through generations in their family, and only those born from the power of the Eden's World Tree and who obtained that power could touch it. The crest depicts a vampire with "wings spread wide," which "protect" the sword. A "ribbon" wrapping around it can also be seen.
The Sakamaki family crest is not the same as the vampire clan's crest: the vampire crest was shown to us in the manga YB vol.6.
The Sakamaki family crest and the Vampire clan crest.
The Sakamaki motto: 'Seeking eternity' = 「永遠を求めよ」 (PV House of Vampire).
• 「無神」 = [mukami] = "Mukami"
Literally 'godless'. It fully corresponds to the worldview and fate of the brothers.
On the Mukami crest, one can see a large sword in the center and four smaller rapiers/sabers on either side of it.
The Mukami motto: 'The Honorable Sword will never break' = 「誉れ高き剣は折れぬ」 (PV House of Vampire).
• 「月浪」 = [tsukinami] = "Tsukinami"
「月」 as "moon, month" and 「浪」 as "large wave" or a part of words meaning "to wander." Considering that the progenitors present themselves in the human world both as Tsukinami and as returnees from England, their surname can be interpreted as "those who wander under the moon," "moon wanderers" (or "moon wave").
The Tsukinami crest depicts a wolf inside a crescent moon.
The Tsukinami motto: 'I can dominate the moon' = 「我ら月を司る」 (PV House of Vampire).
• 「小森」 = [komori] = "Komori"
You can choose any name for the heroine in the game;by default, she is 'Komori Yui'. The girl has an interesting surname: the kanji 「小」 (the syllable 'ko') gives words and phrases the meaning of "small" and "modest," and 「森」, that is [mori], means "forest" or "temple grove."
At the same time, there are several other words in the Japanese language that sound similar but have completely different meanings. Therefore, if you don't know the spelling of Yui's surname, it can lead to some amusing wordplay. For example, [kōmori], with a long first syllable, is the word 「蝙蝠」 = "bat (of the order Chiroptera)". [komori] also sounds like 「子守」 = "childcare," "nanny". There is also the word 「お籠り」 = [o-komori] = "a night spent in prayer at a temple." Considering Yui's story, this becomes very interesting and doesn't seem like a coincidence.
• Kino
Kino had several coats of arms. The last one depicts a heart split into two halves, wrapped in a stem with thorns.
Kino's motto: 'Death knows everything' = 「死こそ、知る」 (PV House of Vampire).
He does not belong to the Sakamaki family, and this surname is never used with his name.
On the official website's character list², he is the only one listed without a surname.
NATIONALITY AND RACE OF THE CHARACTERS
Sakamaki, Tsukinami, Kino, and other demons The Sakamaki brothers, Tsukinami brothers, and Kino have no nationality — they are demons, not humans, and were born as demons. Each character belongs to their own demonic clan/race.
· Thus, Karlheinz, Richter, and Christa are vampires.
· Therefore, all six Sakamaki brothers (Shu, Reiji, Ayato, Kanato, Laito, Subaru) are also vampires (members of the bat clan).
· Cordelia always considered herself a half-vampire and the daughter of the Demon King Burai, who by race is a Bibora (snake clan). However, it turned out she had no relation to the vampire clan: her mother was a Progenitor — this is the First Blood clan (more details in the article "Titles and Race of Cordelia, Her Father and Mother. Titles of Karlheinz"³).
· The Tsukinami brothers (Carla and Shin), as well as their parents and relatives: Gisbach (father), Krone (mother), Mene (Cordelia's mother), Fersen (uncle) are also Progenitors. However, in Shin's route in the game Lost Eden, the purity of the younger Tsukinami's blood was questioned: there was a possibility that he was half-Wolf (wolf clan), but this turned out not to be the case (in reality, Shin is a pureblood Progenitor).
· Yui's child with Shin (Adam) was born a Progenitor (DF Ruki Brute End).
· Theoretically, the child of Yui (Eve) and the one who became Adam should be born as a member of a new race (more details in the article "On Karlheinz's Plan 'Project Eden's Apple' / 'Project Adam's Apple"⁴).
· Kino considers himself a vampire, but in reality, it's difficult to explain what kind of creature he is: according to church officials, he was, like a Ghoul, created from the miasma of Rotigenberg from a physical particle of Karlheinz, but unlike them, he possesses immense power even for a standard vampire (though he is definitely not a vampire).
· Other members of the Vampire race also include: Beatrix, Walter.
· From the Bibora race (snake clan): Zweig, Burai.
· From the Wolf race: Ebert, Gottfried.
· From the First Blood race: Pestie.
· From the Ghouls (including turned ones): Yuri, Leona, Lux, Ruki's father.
Mukami and other humans
Those characters who are human or were human before being turned have their own nationality.
· Yui, according to Shu's mention, is "Asian": 「東洋人」 = "Easterner" (DL Shu Ending 01). Kou called her 「日本人」 = "Japanese" (MB Kou Maniac Prologue).
· Her father, Seiji, judging by his name, should be Japanese.
· Azusa once wandered with gypsies, but it was not stated that he is of Romani nationality himself.
· When Ruki in Lost Eden returned to his city to find out more about Trismegistus (Karlheinz's persona), he went to a 「ルーマニアの図書館」 = "Romanian library". In theory, he was born and raised in Romania. And if the other Mukami lived in the same city, then they should also be from Romania. Edgar (Yuma) grew up in a village, but it's unlikely he could have escaped to another country after the fire. The fact that Azusa lived with gypsies for a time also reinforces the impression that the events take place in Romania: "gypsies" most likely refer to the Roma people. Incidentally: back in the first game, Seiji mentioned his return to Eastern Europe in the general prologue of the game, and in the ending DL Shu Ending 01, Shu spoke of escaping with Yui to 「トランシルヴァニア」 = Transylvania, the once sacred lands of vampires.
· However, there is a catch here: even if Ruki, his parents, Kou (aka Emilio), his mother Leona, Yuma (aka Edgar), his parents, the neighbor Alan, Azusa with Justin, Melissa, and Christina — even if all of them lived in Romania, it is not a fact that they are Romanian by nationality: they could very well be immigrants.
· The Mukami brothers are currently "half-vampires" — turned vampires. Leona, Ruki's father, Lux are turned ghouls.
· The Tsukinami brothers, upon entering Ryotei Academy in Dark Fate, introduced themselves as "returnees from England." However, in reality, they are neither Japanese nor English, as they are not human.

If the diaboys had long hair, what style would they wear it in? (Like a ponytail, pigtails, curling it?)
Hahaha this is a cute and funny ask
Shu: Longish but simple, most of it tied but a few strands slip out and Shu's just too lazy to pull them back
Reiji: Long and flowy, very elegant (Fun fact in his vampire dark fate ending he grows his hair long to resemble Karlheinz)
Ayato: Ponytail, especially for sports but in general Ayato likes the athletic easy-going look of a ponytail
Kanato: Either pigtails or long with waves and a few strands of curls, doll-like
Laito: Long, it's wavy naturally but Laito would use some spray just to keep the form looking nice and consistent even in humidity/rain/wind
Subaru: Not too long, kinda choppy, still one eye covered
Ruki: Long but surprisingly simple, a bit spiky straight
Kou: Long, Kou would do it up in a bunch of different styles but keep it very well-taken care of so that no style damages it no matter what, fantastic high-quality shampoos and conditioners and all sorts of other hair products
Yuma: The same ponytail/bun hybrid he has with his long hair now
Azusa: Shoulder-length, simple little braids
I actually did a genderbent version of them and they all have long hair so if you want to see that

Guy's Tumblr is being a butt and none of my new posts are saving and being posted, I'm crying 😞😞
Back to postingggg and more importantly, answering your asks! Let's do this shit bitchesssss
I just realized a lot of you don't know about my stances in the DL fandom, so here's some piping hot opinions down below! (Consider this an unofficial About Me)
Krispy's Guide to navigating a vampire otome addiction!! ♡
-Who's your favourite brother and why?
Shu Sakamaki because he's hot and I lowkey kin him and we're both into the same weird stuff😓
-Who's your Diabolik lovers bias?
Laito for obvious reasons. I mean I hated him like sooo much before because I firmly stand that your trauma shouldn't be used as an excuse, but he started growing on me and now I will jump to his defense at the drop of a hat
-Who's your least favourite brother?
Tbh I don't have a brother that I personally "hate", just one I don't really care about as much and that would probably lowkey go to Subaru or Reiji
-Who's your least favourite character?
Cordelia as a person, but her character concept as a whole is well done
-Opinions on the anime?
Genuine pig slop, terrible, mischaracterized Yui and I hated her so much back then. If you prefer the anime out of all the other media, please seek help (or you're probably 12)
-Opinions on the fandom?
Get help, all of you, even me, even your pets, possibly the microorganisms living in your eyelashes. I love you guys deeply though 💔
-Controversial opinions?
Yui has shown that she's not some pure innocent mc that everyone should love, she can be a shitty person at times (like when she tried convincing Laito that he should forgive his abuser) even if she's not doing it on purpose. I like her but she's just as guilty as being a bad person as anyone else in the anime/games/manga
- What's your favourite ship?
Shuuma, Ayayui and Ayayuma
-What's your least favourite ship?
Rukiyui I'm sorry 💔
-Overrated character?
Reiji I'm not sorry
- Underrated character?
Richter tbh
- Overrated ship?
Kanato x yui, I just don't see the connection tbh
Underrated ship?
- Ayayuma and Subaru x Kou
Anyways that's it guys buh bye
