THE HAPPY MEDIUM Augustine the Wizard (cheerfully). “How does this strike you?” Mr. John Redmond, “H’m! Not so bad--As far as it goes!”
Artist Bernard Partridge
From Punch Magazine, May 8th 1907.
Okay so, I had to share this.
Spotted in a vintage Punch book that I was flipping through, and damn me if it isn’t my own character drawn 110 years ago. My character is Augustus Fargeau (Augustine the Wizard?) who is making a science of spiritualism, i.e. GHOSTS. Though Fargeau doesn’t wear glasses, he does have a monocle of his own design which he uses to see spirits. He also has a large forehead and a rather impish face about him in my imagination, not too unlike the fellow in this picture.

Was not spoken of the soul.”
