Holi
Holi is a festival of colors. It is celebrated by throwing natural and synthetic colors on one and all. Like the Diwali festival it is celebrated to mark victory over the evil. he celebration takes place after the winter in the spring season in the Hindu lunar moth of Phagun.
Holika sister of a local demon entered the fire with a young Devotee of Vishnu. He was the son of Hiranakshyap. Holika was burnt but Prahalad the young devotee remained unscathed. This was due to his intense devotion to Lord Vishnu. Holika was the sister of Hrinakashyap who gained power by his devotion to Lord Barhma. He eventually indulged in evil activities and was slain By Lord Vishnu who descended as Varha Avtar of as form of wild boar.
The festival last two days on the first night an effigy of Kolika is burnt and the next day people throw color or colored powder on each other. The festival is celebrated all over India and in many countries.
