[ We know very little about The Heart, but what we do know is:

Its location is unknown.

The details and true extent of it’s powers are yet to be seen.

It is irreversibly tied to all other Innocence. If The Heart is destroyed, all other Innocence are destroyed.

You wouldn’t know it was The Heart if you had it. (Note: It implies that only Hevlaska would be able to tell, but this isn’t a confirmed fact. There may be other ways to tell, there may be no way to know for sure until it’s too late.)

I’ll include some info we know about Innocence in general too (only points important to my theory):

It counteracts/corrodes Noah and their powers.

One Innocence per Accommodator . The only known exception is Cross, and he uses very unconventional means.

Some (if not all) Innocence is sentient to an extent. It reacts to its Accommodator’s emotions, intent, and surroundings. This is seen most notably through Allen’s Crown Clown which constantly evolves throughout the series and, against Allen’s own will, chased and killed the Akuma Mana had become.

Now, since we don’t know where The Heart is it could be anywhere. Including, say, in Lavi’s right eye. Yes, he was examined by Hevlaska upon entering the Order, but who’s to say for sure that she would know if it was The Heart? Or, even if she potentially could, who’s to say The Heart isn’t hiding itself? It’s plausible that, like other Innocence, it is sentient to an extent. It knows what it is, it knows the consequences if it’s found. Or perhaps the eyepatch is more than it seems? A barrier? Which begs the question: Does Bookman know? If so how? There’s a million different theories and possibilities about this small part on it’s own, but to conclude, let’s leave it at the fact that it’s plausible that The Heart has laid undiscovered in Lavi’s right eye since, well, probably since he was born.

Now, on to the point that one Accommodator can’t have two Innocence. Well, there’s already an exception to that rule (Cross) and who’s to say this sin’t another of The Heart’s abilities? It IS tied to all other Innocences after all, and probably has a certain amount of influence/control over them. And if we follow the previous “it may be hiding itself” theory, what better place to hide than in someone who already has Innocence? Perfect alibi in a way.

And another thing! This relates to the whole “The Heart is hiding itself” theory. It is confirmed that the acts of Allen and Lenalee’s Innocence acting strangely are merely “dummy hearts” (the Earl’s words, not mine). They are manifestations of The Heart’s will to draw attention away from itself. A similar occurrence happened with Krory. when his Innocence suddenly went Crystal and possessed him in his battle with Jasdevi. Arguably, Kanda’s Innocence also displayed strange qualities, such as it rusting over when he was in critical condition and separated for too long.

Two of these “dummy heart” events (Allen’s and Lenalee’s) happened with the knowledge of the Earl, who got distracted by investigating further if they really are The Heart or not.

So, Allen and Lenalee, and perhaps Krory and Kanda, all have Innocence that functioned as “dummy hearts” at some point. Who do we know that knows all of these people? That has spent a lot of time with each of them?

Lavi.

Yet Lavi hasn’t had a “dummy heart” moment yet.

One last thought that isn’t so much evidence as speculation. Lavi hasn’t had any arc to himself yet. He had a couple of chapters that had a few panels of flashbacks but that’s really all we’ve gotten out of him. Allen’s having his big arcs right now (Seed of Destruction and Searching for A.W.). We had the Mystery of Kanda arc for Kanda. The Suman Dark’s Fallen, CrossRoads, Edo and Asian Branch, and Noah’s Ark arcs revealed a BUNCH of info about Lenalee’s past and what she’s been through, and her Innocence’s evolution into a Crystal type and “dummy heart” incident also occurred here (along with Allen’s possible “dummy heart” incident). Even Krory had the Vampire of the Old Castle arc which revealed most of his backstory. He also had his “dummy heart” incident in the Noah’s Ark arc.

Anyways, my point is that most characters have had an arc (or several arcs) which is centered around them, or where lots of info is revealed about them.

But we’ve had no such thing with Lavi.

Now, the three major mysteries of D.Gray-Man have been:

What/Who exactly IS Allen Walker, and what is the path he is walking on?

What/Who exactly ARE the Noah and what is their true goal?

The Heart, where it may be, who may have it, and what will happen once either side finds it (we know the Noah want to destroy it, but is there anything special that may happen once it’s found and put inside Hevlaska??)

Anyways, those first two questions are set to be answered REAL soon. Neah is getting more and more control, Allen is having his big arc, the Noah are finalizing their shit and moving in and the Ealr is almost literally losing his shit. Things are about to hit a climax.

And yet, no one is any closer to finding The Heart.

So we’re missing two things.

A Lavi centric arc (or any solid info about Lavi really) and The Heart.

This alone is a pretty big coincidence at best, but consider this:

With the first two mysteries set to be answered in this arc, that means the next arc has gotta be about The Heart (although I admit Hoshino may throw is for the loop with new info in this arc that will extend into the next arc).

And Hoshino HAS said that the arc after this is goign to be Lavi centric.

So let’s throw together what we know and have deduced so far, yes?

Lavi’s name means “Heart”

It is probable that The Heart, like other Innocence, is sentient on some level and is consciously hiding itself (well, camouflaging in this case).

Lavi is canonically aware that his right eye has unique abilities that need to be hidden, however, it is undetermined whether he knows said abilities’ origins. Same goes for Bookman.

Lavi is close to at least two confirmed “dummy heart” Accommodators.

Bonus: It has been confirmed by Hoshino that, after this arc about Allen and Neah wraps up, the next arc will be Lavi-centric. Now, Hoshino has kept us in the dark about Lavi’s past. We’ve learned major events and in some cases most of the past of the other main cast. Except for Lavi. Hoshino has also said that, while Lavi is her favorite character, what is in store for him is far from pleasant. And if this theory is correct...well, I can see why.
