Wales Bonner is one of Britain’s brightest new talents. In his collections the English-Jamaican menswear designer explores the space between European luxury and black identity. Photographer Dexter Lander captured amazing spirit of Wales Bonner’s first collection. Inspired by the work of Samuel Fosso and the work of photographic studios around the world that use painted backdrops, Dexter with his team created fun, immersive character portraits using the set as a tool to build upon these characters. The images are obviously constructed whilst still feeling familiar and domestic. The set and props then became an interactive space for the models to relax and to explore and allowed for their own characters and the authenticity of the collection to shine through.
