On a lighter note, Hyena is much like Coyote in that it teaches you to take things with some humor. Never lose your laugh, as laughter is a powerful antidote to most of life’s ailments. Hyena is also a teacher of humble ways, humility, and power balances and security in your own skin. Hyena has the stronger jaws and a very skilled hunting ability that is often attributed to the Lions, when in reality the Lion is often the scavenger, nipping off the kills of the Hyena. Hyena knows that life is not always a contest of who is strongest or who is apex, or who gets all the recognition. Hyena knows its skills and cares little for the attribution of its talents to the larger cat. Instead it accepts its own weakness, embraces it and moves forward. It knows that pound for pound its power and skill is superior, but acknowledges that its weaker back end will bode poorly against the maned master of the African plains. It accepts this and moves forward. It holds no ill will to the cat, merely continuing with its own life, and seizing the opportunity to scavenge off a Lion’s kill when the option arises. Balancing the Self and your own interactions with your environment, your reality and your reactions is Hyena’s biggest teaching. Learn to temper your attitude, check your outlook, maintain a positive attitude, and when you are sleighted by life, patiently await your opportunity to strike when it arises. Never second guess that intuition to seize the moment when it presents itself. Hesitation can be both wise and damning so master the balancing act Hyena teaches. Your True Self is never wrong, and don’t you let the Lions make you feel otherwise. Remember, no life can come and go with nothing but perfect temperatures and sunshine. Sometimes you will have to weather storms, and in these instances the patience of Hyena will become a valued asset.
