The loss of my virginity has been on my mind lately because I’m desperate to try and find my way back to Aphrodite. I was scared before I was Pagan. If scared isn’t the right word then it’s internalized guilt from two places. One, I was raised very strictly Christian, I always knew that I wouldn’t make it until marriage as a virgin but I wasn't supposed to think like that. The other place would be from my abusive boyfriend. After him, I shut love out. I was told that even if we broke up and I had sex with someone else he would never be able to be with me again. I believed it obviously and that held me back for longer than the Christianity. 

Aphrodite knew that before I had sex I would be unresponsive to her lessons of love, interpersonal and intrapersonal. She left me in the care of Artemis for years. One day I just knew that it was time. I met someone (a friend is what we will call him because we still talk and check on each other etc.), there was nothing particularly special about this person, it wasn’t like I’d known them forever, loved him or anything like that. I just knew that he was safe, that I could trust him. We had relations and the next day was sign after sign that I’d made the right choice and that I was on the right path. I had opened myself up to the pain that I was afraid of, and she used it to teach me to never fear love, to run toward it.
