One prominent feature of the cambrian expansion is the evolution of early fish, based on their design it is possible these developed from earlier flatworms of the proterozoic era. One noteworthy early fish is Haikouichthys (pictured above) which is the eldest know vertebrae, meaning that as far as we know all creatures with a spine owe their origin to this common ancestor which was first to develop a spine in order to move its body and develop fins for swimming. The rise of fish would signify the beginig of the “Devonian Era”.
