Back in 1999, I was using one of those P2P programs where music was exchanged and happened to come across this particular band's first album, released only in Japan, '1st P'. I was into it. Only recently did I realize that I hadn't given the Polysics a listen in several years. At least, not since their last album came out in 2019. This is me re-familiarizing myself with their brand of, what they call, "technicolor pogo punk". 'I My Me Mine' is from the 2005 album, 'Now Is The Time!' The band's aesthetics are the same but the sound is far more polished than their previous output (which has been coupled to adjectives like "spastic" because that's how "rock journalists" write. Not that this entirely wrong, as their song 'Go Ahead Now! demonstrates wonderfully). I don't know if I would consider this particular song representative of the band's sound given how it changes from album to album (while maintaining a certain core continuity). It does give you a taste of what you'll get should you decide that this listen merits further audio investigation. I was thinking of offering up 'Everybody Say No' from their 2012 album 'Weeeeeeeeee!!!' to help fuel that anti-Trump, "fuck Ice" sentiment but I honestly don't know what the lyrical content of this song actually is, I just love a meaty sounding bass in a song that moves. Just for funsies, here's 'How Are You?' from 2011's 'Oh! No! It's Heavy Polysick!!!' Edit: I forgot that they have a side project (that might have become their main) called The Vocoders that is a kind of homage to Kraftwerk. Here's the song 'Part of Me' if you're interested.
