"That's true," she admitted, biting her lip. She'd seen something try to attack Shepard before. It had not ended well for the other party. That didn't mean she didn't worry a bit senselessly for him. Penelope didn't make friends easily, and perhaps this was why. She was all in on all her friendships. She could not give that much of herself to very many people and still have anything left.

"Of course it's a stupid idea. Dragons are dangerous. You saw what just happened in town. They're lucky they didn't accidentally open a portal to hell or something!" Once prompted, the words just came spilling out of her mouth. Penny never could resist answering a question, even the possibly rhetorical ones. "And you should have told me sooner," she added, her eyes flashing briefly. She did not want to do the secrets thing with her best friend. The last time that happened, well... she never wanted a repeat of that.

"Did he have any evidence to support that?" Her eyes narrowed slightly, part skepticism and part suspicion. Like she'd said, dragons were dangerous, and she doubted anyone who said they could handle them. She wasn't even sure the four of them were equipped to handle a dragon, but she trusted them more than she trusted anyone else. "I can't think of anything good to come out of that research," she said flatly, shaking her head. "No, the egg stays with us, and I think we should keep that as quiet as we can for now. We should tell Baz and Shepard though. This affects them too." If a dragon were going to suddenly destroy their apartment, she’d prefer they have a head’s up about it first.

     it had to be. who knew that it would be one of her patients to mention this to her. while it was important to establish good rapport with them, she didn’t expect karma to come back around. especially with something she’d been working towards for a while now. they specifically noted that the individual they described had the same runes on their body as hers. she tried her best to cover hers up to maintain a professional image albeit it wasn’t a main concern to her. she had yet to find someone who blatantly expressed their dislike. not that she would care since they don’t really affect her work. 

    she inhaled a deep breath before opening the doors to the town library. she felt her nerves radiating throughout her body. what if it wasn’t him? she had desperately hoped that they weren’t wrong. the alienating feeling of being in this place definitely started to crawl on her, becoming more noticeable as time passed on. how long she desired to reunite or recognize someone from the same world she was from. dark hues glanced left and right in search for the front desk. today the facility seemed rather empty. the silence made it to where her thoughts were more audible than usual. or maybe her nerves were getting in the way. 

    once she fount the front desk, her eyes widened when she noticed a familiar figure in her vision. the runes. no doubt. before she could think, she was already speedwalking over to the desk. “alec? is that you?” she eagerly inquired, crossing her arms, placing them on the counter. then she proceeded to lean in closer to get a better look at him, staring. 

Penelope was rapidly starting to think of this place as "their" diner, given that it was one of three whole places in town she was familiar with. She really needed to branch out, but first she had to stop living in denial that they were actually stuck here for a while, and that wasn't happening today. At very least, the investigation was over, and that was one less thing to think about. The whole thing was pretty baffling to her, from the murderers themselves to how the town was handling it, but aside from watching telly, she had no idea what Normals actually did about those sorts of things--and she didn't really care. Agatha called her a magic snob, but the World of Mages was Penny's world. What went on outside of it failed to interest her for long.

She slid into a chair at what she was coming to think of as their table, not bothering with a menu. She'd been magickally extending their money for the time being ("A penny saved is a penny earned!"), but it wasn't a long-term solution, and she felt guiltier every time she did it. Normals or not, she didn't want to single-handedly throw their economy into upheaval or anything. Plus, her mum would lock her in a tower if she ever found out. She'd broken so many magickal laws since she left Great Britain, she'd be shocked if she didn't end up on trial before the Coven if they ever managed to get home.

Penny shot him a worried look at the question. She’d been waiting for him to ask at some point, and she hated the answer. "I don't know, Simon," she said quietly. She hated not knowing, and she hated admitting it even more, but she would never lie to her best friend. "I honestly... I have no idea what kind of place this is. It's not the World of Mages, but you're right, it's not totally Normal either. No one even blinks at your wings, and Baz told me there are vampires here who literally catch fire if they go in the sunlight. It's just absurd. That only happens in stories." It had been alarming at first, thinking Simon had been out all this time with his wings on full display, but it was equally alarming how no one really cared. Almost as if they'd seen stranger things than that before, but even by magickal standards, Simon's wings were unusual. He had a standing offer for her to spell them away, but he seemed happier with them out, and it wasn’t like they were a secret at this point.

    there was no way. how was this even possible? the detective had seen many eccentric things in her lifetime, especially since lucifer came into the picture. so she thought she would be prepared for just about anything. wrong. since they’ve moved in together she was looking at some items to add to make their place feel more like home. she decided to take this opportunity to surprise him with a gift that she knew for certain he’d take a liking to. her rule of thumb was that if her daughter would like it, chances are that he would too. 

     now it was missing. the shipping service here was horrible, she thought. now she knew for certain to stick with fedex. naturally, she started investigating on this matter. she walked around town and finally made her way over to the pier. she was walking around for what felt like hours. at this point she even lost track of time. off in the distance, she recognized a familiar figure. this could be an opportunity. what better way to ask for help on something like this than with someone you know? even though she was slightly dreading the explanation that would deem anything but normal to him. chloe lightly jogged over to the other. 

    “hey alec! it’s chloe from the pub.” she exclaimed, giving him a warm smile. “ how are you? i apologize if i said anything out of line from the alcohol the other night. listen, i need help with something and i would really appreciate your assistance. i lost a gift for someone.” she started before tilting her head to the side while looking at him. she went straight to the point. how ironic that she keeps meeting alec in the strangest circumstances. 

       “   and they don’t need to know that this is going on, it’s    well, was a surprise. would you please help me?” 

“As I said before: a curse, most likely. A sort-of mental block is probably keeping you from retrieving those memories.” 

Rhiannon let her hand trail lazily on the open book, fingers brushing over a page on the complexity of human memory. The desperate always came back to her. Unwilling to wait or let fate take its course. I need it now. It made sense, she guessed. For a species with so little time, they wanted to make use of every second. 

“Are you going to take me up on my offer to help you? Or are you going to wallow in memory-less misery some more?”
