Kotasaurus was another primitive sauropod, this time from India instead of Thailand - specifically, the Kota Formation (from which it got its name) of Andhra Pradesh. It lived alongside the other early sauropod Barapasaurus, and lived from the Sinemurian to Pliensbachian ages of the Early Jurassic, about 196.5 to 183 million years ago. It is known from partial remains of many individuals - at least 12 - though its skull has not yet been found. It was estimated to be about 9 meters long, and still had many non-sauropod sauropodomorph features, making its classification originally unclear, though it has since been placed as a very basal sauropod.
