the call came in at 1:42 AM. a break in the silence of her dark office, cigarette ashes flicked onto the ashtray below. honeyed voice rasp & clipped as the sound of panic flows from the receiver. arms pull through jacket sleeves, she hangs up the phone as she moves through the doorway, door slamming shut behind her. transfixed on the location upon the cracked screen of her phone, she strides behind the building, out of sight of any passerby as she’s teleported to the scene. she’s careful, aware of her surroundings, & pleased when it goes as smoothly as expected. a crowd has begun to form, red & blue lights flashing, illuminating parts of this gruesome scene. pushing forward, the people part like the sea, surprised & fearful of her resounding footsteps. the police tape is lifted for her- she has no need to show her license any longer in this small town- an officer immediately speaking to her in hushed tones. wrong place, wrong time they say; this unsuspecting mortal has found themselves on the receiving end of some hellion’s joy ride. the body disfigured & mangled, but there’s a feeling in the air, a smell that is all too familiar to the demon residing inside. disgust fills features, annoyance weaved into the color of her eyes. what a mess.
now, as she has her hands around his throat, eyes ablaze like the flaming inferno of her native place, she’s not sure how to proceed. instead of slicing straight through his jugular, her teeth are bared, giving him one last chance. ❝ tell me why i shouldn’t send you straight back to hell. ❞ ||> @devials <||
