The Future of Product Photography
The Pollinate development team spends a lot of time looking at new and interesting things, then spend even more time wondering how these cool things are created. The latest example is the new Mac Pro promo page. If you haven’t seen it, you should check it out—it contains animated exploding views of the product, which is such a great way to go beyond a static image and show all the details and specifics that make up the total package. So we did some digging and found a video that contains all of the animations in one shot. This is tricky because it’s a big budget line item, both in terms of video shoot and then development time for a web interface. Enter the newest resource that is circulating, which is Charlie.js. This is an open source library that allows developers to arbitrarily start, stop and reverse web video and synchronize them with the animation of other visual elements on the page. Assuming it does what it says it does, it could probably cut development time in half or more for a project like that. We can’t wait to give this a try.
