Will shouldâve been asleep, but insomnia was keeping them awake again. Insomnia and a lack of desire to turn off their computer and be left in silence with their thoughts. So instead, they continued to binge The Blacklist.
Theyâd been halfway into an episode when Dev had shot into the room like a wayward firework, buzzing and crackling with an energy that was far too animated and loud for Willâs grouchy mood. Dev had, without taking a breath it seemed, told Will all about a wild fight theyâd witnessed in a neighborhood they had no business being in. They walked and jumped around the room as they recounted their story, adding sound effects and dramatic gestures at all the correct moments. Will listened to and watched the story with a scowl, which did nothing to discourage Dev.Â
Once their story was over, theyâd flopped onto the bed with a lack of grace that resulted in Will getting jabbed in the thigh by a bony knee or elbow.Â
âWatch it,â they snapped.Â
âWhat are we watching?â Dev asked, cuddling beside Will and looking at the computer.
As they burrowed into a comfortable position, they shoved a pillow beneath their head, halfway pushed against Willâs shoulder. Their bodies were pressed together, save for the two layers of blankets and their clothes. Typically averse to touch of any kind, but especially intimate touch, Will could tolerate physical affection, and maybe even enjoy it, if there were layers between their body and if it was coming from Dev.Â
âIâm watching The Blacklist,â Will said.Â
âNeato burrito.â
Will thought maybe Dev was going to watch with them, but within minutes, they had passed out still cuddled against Will.Â
Two and a half episodes later, Will found themself wanting to sleep. Maybe Dev peacefully sleeping beside them was affecting them, or maybe energy was just running out after a long day. Either way, they shut their laptop, and carefully readjusted so that both they and Dev were horizontal. They bunched their pillow up beneath their head and rolled onto their side, facing Dev.Â
Dev was so infrequently still, and when they were, Will didnât want to risk being caught staring, so they rarely got the chance to really look at Dev. When they fell asleep beside them, Will could admire their friend without feeling self-conscious.Â
That was the only time Dev looked peaceful and serene. Asleep. Their fidgeting subsided and their expression relaxed, their lips slightly parted as they breathed slow, deep breaths. Careful not to wake them, Will brushed a strand of hair back from their forehead. Dev stirred slightly at the touch, but didnât wake up. Will smiled to themself. Â
Their moment of silent admiration was ruined by Dev waking up and yawning, before squinting through the dark at Will.
âAre you watching me sleep?â Dev teased.Â
âNo,â Will scowled. âYou were snoring.âÂ
Will flipped onto their other side and scowled at the dark room until they eventually fell asleep.

More to come probably but I don't think it was even in a battle it was just doing something fucking dumb or while in prison or something which like....on brand??
In which Dev is annoying and Will wants to fight them
A spark zapped across the fleece blanket that was draped over Will and Devâs legs, sending a buzz through Willâs arm as it hit their wrist. This was the third time a wayward spark had shocked Will in the past thirty minutes.
âIf you do that again, Iâll annihilate you,â Will said, shooting a glare in Devâs direction.
âSorry,â Dev said with a grin. They didnât sound sorry at all.
The two sat on Devâs bed, sharing a blanket and a mountain of pillows. The bed was the first bed that had ever been truly Willâs, situated in the corner of the first room that had ever been truly theirs. When Hanna let Will pick out a bed, theyâd decided on a queen over queen bunkbed, the cost of which was covered by a recent heist. They had said they wanted a bunkbed for the inevitable nights when Dev would crash at Hannaâs apartment, but Hanna suspected that Willâs main motivation was that they enjoyed the cave like feel of a bunkbed up against a wall. Something safe and cozy. Regardless, their supposed intention was quickly abandoned, as most nights Dev stayed over, Dev ended up sleeping in Willâs bed with them â unless Will shoved them to the floor for being a pain â and the top bunk became storage for laundry that needed folding, extra pillows, and a cheap carnival stuffed animal that Dev had won at an annual fair.
Willâs laptop sat on the bed between the two teens, playing a Disney channel original movie that Dev insisted Will needed to watch. Something about a Leprechaun. Will had wanted to watch a horror movie, but unfortunately for them, it was Devâs week to pick the movie, and theyâd picked something theyâd remembered watching as a kid.
Dev tapped their fingers against their leg, moving just for the sake of moving. Another zap of electricity hit Will.
âDev,â Will said.
âSorry, that was an accident,â Dev said, still grinning. Another spark of electricity crackled.
âMotherâthatâs it,â Will said, reaching behind them to grab a pillow from the mountain of pillows.
Before Dev could properly fend them off, Will was on top of them, wailing on them with the pillow. It was one of the flat decorative pillows that had a pillowcase to match the comforter and had seemingly no purpose other than that. They werenât useful for sleeping and would get tossed on the floor or the top bunk, so Will couldnât figure out why they needed them at all. However, they made for decent weapons in pillow warfare.
âHey, hey,â Dev laughed, covering their face with one arm. âI said it was an accident!â
Dev grasped blindly at the mountain of pillows, looking for their own weapon, and the smacked it against Willâs side. Will quickly and successfully rent the pillow from Devâs grasp, but in their attempt to do so, Dev knocked them off balance, making them teeter on the edge of the bed. Dev nudged Will with their foot, which sent Will to the floor. Practice with the team and getting into childhood fights taught Will how to fall without hurting themself, and they were quickly back on their feet. Standing beside the bunk, they swung their arm to the side, twisting their torso for momentum to knock Dev across the side of the head.
âWait, wait!â Dev said, putting their arms in front of their face as they prepared for the blow. âI wonât do it again, I promise, it was an accident.â
âYou promise you wonât do it again or you promise it was an accident?â Will asked, relaxing slightly.
Dev considered the question before saying, âYes.â
âHmm,â Will narrowed their eyes. âIf it was an accident, you canât promise that it wonât happen again by accident.â
âIâll try really, really hard,â Dev said, squeezing their hands into fists and tensing their upper body, as if they needed their entire body tensed up in order to succeed in not sending static currents everywhere.
âFine,â Will said. âBut if you do it again, you will know pain.â
As Will climbed back into bed, crawling around Dev to get to their spot next to the wall, Dev said, âMan, now we have to go back. We missed so much of the movie.â
âWhose fault is that?â Will asked, settling in beside them.
âYours. You brutally and viciously attacked me without reason.â Dev hit the left arrow on the keyboard, rewinding the movie to where theyâd left off.
As Dev leaned back against pillow mountain, their finger hovering over the space bar to press play, a small smile twitched on their lips. There was a spark of static. The reaction was immediate. Will lunged at them.
âIt was an accident!â Dev yelled as they tried to jump off the bed. Their leg got caught in the blanket, interfering with their escape. The only made it halfway off the bed, brought down by Willâs tackle. Their head and torso hung over the side. Will had them pinned down with their arms around Devâs middle.
As Will let go and sat up to grab another pillow, Dev rolled off the bed and caught themself on their hands and knees. Despite Willâs threat, Dev was grinning.
A pillow whumped against the side of Devâs head, sending them rolling onto their side, then their back. With an impish laugh, they tried to curl into a fetal position to protect themself from the pillowâs blows, but Will was already sitting on top of them, holding the pillow above their head.
âIt was an accident!â Dev said again. The grin was still present as they turned their head and covered their face with their arms. âI didnât mean to!â
âMaybeâŚyouâŚshouldâŚlearnâŚtoâŚcontrolâŚyourâŚpowers,â Will said, punctuating each word with a blow of the pillow.
âHelp! Iâm being attacked!â Dev yelled. Will shoved the pillow over their face, muffling their voice.
âSHH,â Will hissed. âHanna is trying to work.â
Too late. Willâs bedroom door opened. Hanna cracked it open just enough for her to poke her head in and assess the situation. Will had started to raise the pillow again, and paused with it above their head, prepared to wail down on Dev again.
âWhat are you guys doing?â Hanna said. She sounded weary, not at all concerned.
âDev deserves this,â Will said without hesitation.
âI donât doubt it,â Hanna said. âCan you be quieter, though?â
Will said, âYesâ at the same time Dev answered, âNo.â
âTheyâre trying to kill me!â Dev said, their voice too loud for the small size of the room. Will shoved the pillow over their face again and looked back to Hanna.
âWill, donât kill Dev,â Hanna ordered.
âWhy not?â Will asked. Dev squirmed beneath them, trying to get away.
âIâm not in the business of body disposal, and I donât want to start,â Hanna said.
âBut what if I get rid of the body myself?â Will asked.
âHey!â Dev yelled, voice muffled by the pillow. Will pushed it harder against their face. Dev jabbed their fingers repeatedly against Willâs torso, but the tactic was ineffective. Will was serious about pillow warfare. They were immovable.
âIâd rather not deal with a murder scene in my apartment. Annabelâs goat sacrifices are bad enough,â Hanna said.
âWhat about series injury or maiming?â Will asked.
âIâm dying,â Dev yelled. They wiggled their limbs and then flopped completely still, playing dead. Will lifted the pillow and smacked them with it again.
âIâm not driving you guys to the E.R.,â Hanna said.
âFine.â
âThatâs it!?â Dev said. âHanna! Willâs trying to kill me,â Will shoved the pillow over their face again.
âWell, die more quietly. I have an exam in two days, and I need to focus,â she said, her voice fading as she pulled out of the room. She shut the door behind her, and Will listened to her soft footsteps disappear.
âWillllll,â Dev whined from beneath the pillow. âIâm sorrryyyy.â
âI donât believe you,â Will said.
âAt least let a person defend themself!â Dev said. âMake this a fair fight!â
âLife isnât fair,â Will said. Their tone was grave, which made Dev snort in amusement.
âOh, boo hoo, edgelord,â Dev said as Will finally pulled the pillow away. They didnât actually want Dev to suffocate. Mostly.
âThis should be a battle of honor!â Dev said. âRight now, itâs just an assassination.â
âMaybe if you werenât such an ass, you wouldnât get ass-ass-inated.â
âHa!â Dev laughed
Will moved off Dev and stood. They reached out a hand to Dev to help pull them to their feet. As soon as Dev was standing, they turned to the bed and picked a weapon of their own.
âEn garde!â Dev shouted, holding their pillow with one hand. They both dropped into fighting stances, their knees bent, their pillows ready for battle.
Willâs bedroom door flew open, Hannaâs hand still on the knob as she looked into the room with a much more annoyed expression than last time.
âIf you guys have a pillow fight at eleven p.m. the week before finals, I will kick you out of the apartment,â she warned.
âWhat other time is there to have a pillow fight?â Will asked, making an incredulous face at her. Didnât she know anything?
âItâs not a pillow fight,â Dev said. âItâs a pillow battle. A battle for honor.â
âPostpone it,â Hanna said, in her I-Mean-Business Mom Voice, a voice that she insisted she neither had nor used. She was not a mom.
Will and Dev let their pillows drop to their sides.
âFine,â Dev said, their mouth turned down in a pout.
âThank you,â Hanna said, and with more force than necessary, she pulled the door closed.
Will tossed the pillow back onto the bed and remade Pillow Mountain, stacking the pillows in their optimal arrangement.
âIf you shock me again, you can watch the rest of the movie from the floor,â Will said, using a threat that wouldnât result in annoying Hanna for a third time, should it need to be carried out, (which if past experiences were any indication, it would). As much as they loved to annoy Hanna, they knew finals and school actually mattered to her, and they didnât want to make finals season more stressful than it already was.
âOkay,â Dev said cheerily, nearly bumping their head against the top bunk as they tried to jump onto the bed.
Will tossed the fleece blanket to the floor, hoping that the lack of static conductive fabric would prevent so many sparks. Instead, they grabbed the quilt that was bunched at the foot of their bed. The quilt was a gift from one of the only good foster moms Will had ever had. It wasnât made for a queen-size bed, but it was cozy and lovingly-made, two things that were rare in Willâs young life.
Dev curled up beside Will, pulling part of the quilt over one of their legs. Reaching out with their other leg, Dev hit the spacebar with their toe, unpausing the movie.
âEw,â Will said. âKeep your gross toes away from my laptop.â
âKeep your gross laptop away from my toes,â Dev said.

I should either be doing homework or sleeping but instead here are some young injustice headcanons
Annabel, Dev, and Will are frequently inseparable and it gives Hanna a headache because pretty much all they do is wreak havoc.
They also have like an army of stray animal friends. They steal food from big name pet shops and the feed every stray animal they can find.
Solana frequently encourages Annie, Dev, and Willâs shenanigans because she thinks theyâre always hilarious. Sheâs also taught them all how to ride motorcycles.
Dev likes to ask Will âwhat will happen if you set this on fireâ and Will will set it on fire and they discover that most of the time the result is said thing will be on fire.
Dev and Will wrestle a lot and have accidentally (or so they say) given each other black eyes on a few different occasions.
Britney is permanently annoyed by Annie, Dev, and Will. To be fair, they are pretty annoying.
Finn teaches Will to drive and Will has so much fun speeding and breaking traffic laws and Finn is terrible and probably encourages them.
Will is hopeless with technology. Finn buys them an iphone or something because Will has an old-ass flip phone that doesnât work half the time.
Will has almost set the theater on fire on several different occasions. Rose, Dev, or Annabel are always involved.
Dev, Annie, and Will want really desperately to know about Ethanâs private life because he keeps it a mystery and theyâve tried multiple times to follow him but he always manages to shake them.
They have game nights occasionally. It always ends badly because at least half of them cheat.
Penny has a knack for accidentally startling her teammates. I feel like sheâs really good at pickpocketing too and everybody always tries to prove theyâre a better pickpocket than she is
