I've realised that there's no point in punishing someone because they chose the wrong thing. Because they were always going to choose that.

Say, someone runs a red light and kills somebody - I know this is an unpopular opinion. But unless there's a purpose for jail time such as to prevent it from happening again, I don't see a reason for punishment.
