Can’t get back to myself after all that I’ve done

So I just read an interesting debate I had not thought of that involved people arguing whether Cayde-6 could come back as Cayde-7, only this time he's controlled by the Darkness and it's up to us to lay him to rest. A riveting theory no doubt, but let me clarify something quickly before I give my two cents.

For those that don't follow the lore too closely, Cayde admits in his journal entries that Cayde-6 was simply the number he gave himself. It wasn't that he feared the number seven, simply what multiple resets represented to him. Every reset meant a memory wipe, forgetting himself, and everything he cared for. He feared becoming like Banshee-44, and so wrote his journal to help him remember. He refused to count resets past six, so it is very likely he could have been on his 10th life, but we'd be none the wiser. That's why he didn't want us to bring him back. If he died, he wanted to stay dead.

Uldren Sov isn’t going to become the new hunter vanguard from the dare. No way, by the Traveler’s own divine roundness, would any member of the vanguard ever allow a brand new guardian to take that spot.

Sure, he could probably become one way down the line, since Uldren has many qualities that would be great for a vanguard, let alone a hunter one. From the ghost stories lore we know that ghosts get a sort of TLDR of their guardian’s personality and key traits so that they can tell whether they want to Rez them or not.

But, and this is a big but. My guess is that that’s not what Bungie has planned for him. If anything, Uldren was returned to the story to be a representation of how our characters have grown over the years. Uldren returns with nothing, no recollection of who he is, what he’s done, where he is, etc. Complete blank slate, just like our guardian and every guardian before us.

Both outside and inside the lore, we never really interact with guardian’s like ours. We’ve met plenty of legends, heard about even more, but we’ve never met a character we can relate to on an experiential level. And due to our character being a silent protagonist, we have no idea how we’ve been affected by everything we’ve seen. Seeing Uldren grow as a guardian and react to the world he’s been thrown into would fill that gap.
