He stands next to you now, coming out of the shock much more quickly than you will. That stupid, fly-catching jaw-dropped look on his face turns to a hardened glare. He's angry. But he's more tired than he is angry, the bags under his eyes pronounced in this moment. Not that you're looking.
"I'll-- I'll fix this, I promise, your highness-- I cannot begin to express to you how sorry I am," he stammers, taking your hand a little more suddenly than he should. But it's fine this time. You haven't jumped back. You're fine. You're just busy. "I'll clean this up-- please, let's take you to your room. Would you like that in the meantime?"
You can't reply, because you're still figuring out which of these exact suits stole your breath from you. Within a couple seconds, you merely nod, figuring you'll find more in the safety of your chambers. He nods back at you, he does not force you to speak - he wordlessly places one hand to your back, keeping your hand safe and warm in his.
All you can think about, hours from that, is the sheer number of them, and how much work it must have taken to place that many - even to just materialize that many. All you can think about is how much time and effort went into this very cruel joke.
