it's funny because i had never ever ever had a fic get this many hits/kudos/comments on ANYTHING before, but i went into it thinking (knowing) that it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea !
funnily enough, i remember the day i started writing it - i actually wrote four different page-ones for four different fic ideas but the SECOND i wrote about shane getting out of his car in that parking lot, i knew i wanted to continue with it because it dragged me INNNN. i immediately fell in love with them
one tidbit is, i guess, that chapter 3 was originally supposed to be much bigger in terms of the number of scenes, and i was really scared of tackling the condo sequence. i thought it would be a few hundred words max because i used to jump around difficult conversations and only write out the 'most important' stuff. and i think degrees taught me that i don't always have to do that and more often than not, it's the better choice (for me) to hunker down and write it ALL out, even if it's difficult (for me, and for them) !! i said in a previous ask that i am insecure about my writing - i generally really don't know what to do with all the kind comments i've gotten over the past few months - but i can recognize that degrees taught me a lot about allowing myself to give scenes the time they deserve <3

Today is the 10 year anniversary of the first Desert Hearts! I discovered this crew throwing the most amazing party at their stage takeover at Oregon Eclipse in 2017. That night I fell in love with House music and decided to pursue DJing and producing it. Since then I've had the pleasure of seeing them countless times, attending their festival and having some conversations back stage and on the dance floor. This picture was taken at 2 pm after one of their best parties at @spacemiami ended and the club was empty! I was vibing all night carrying these Dessert Hearts (punn intended) perler necklaces that I made for the crew and finally mustered up the courage to walk up to the DJ booth and show @mikeylion what I brought for them. He then invited me on stage to spend the rest of their family set backstage with them and chill. That night was extremely memorable for me. At the time I only just started DJing at clubs and just started learning how to produce music. Now I've released 13 of my own original tracks and you bet that I have my desert heart set on releasing music with these awesome people!
