It’s probably due a little bit to my family’s background, but I have a strong pull to bodies of water. A lot of writing from Newfoundland and Portugal really captures the reverence people have for the ocean when they live and work on it. Fados are not my favourite Portuguese music to listen to, they are very somber and traditional, but the history of thousands of men dying at the hand of the ocean, spending years working in the middle of the world alone, you hear the fear in every vibrato.
