Robert Vivar was given the green light to enter and apply for residency in the United States after years of advocating for others as a border activist for deported veterans, migrants and asylum seekers looking for a chance themselves to be given permission to apply and cross to the U.S. through the legal court system. Vivar handed his paperwork with his lawyer present at the San Ysidro Port of Entry on U.S. Veterans Day in Tijuana, Mexico on Thursday, November 11, 2021. — Robert was deported eight years ago from the U.S. and lived in Tijuana during that time. He became involved with deportees and other migrants seeking their “American Dream” when he joined the organization Unified U.S. Deported Veterans Resource Center (which has an office near the San Ysidro Port of Entry). Robert’s involvement and interest in the deported veterans came from his own background as a deported migrant himself and his family ties to U.S. military service; his son is currently serving as an active duty military officer and his two brothers who are veterans. — Last two images shot in December 2019 and June 2021 of Robert giving a tour of the Playas Tijuana border to U.S. Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and him organizing asylum seekers to cross to San Diego, California for their U.S court hearings. — #onassignment #veterans #deportedveterans #veteransday #everydayusa #sandiego #tijuana #tijuanamexico #mexico #edca #migration #photojournalism #archive #fotoperiodismo #documentaryphotography #everydaymexico #everydaylatinamerica #everydaylafrontera #everydaysocialjustice #everydayeverywhere #reportagespotlight #everydaymigration #usmexicoborder #frontera #fronterizo #lightstalker (at USA-Mexico Border, Tijuana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWJgu-QhrhA/?utm_medium=tumblr
