MEXICO CITY — El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, who has famously dubbed himself the "world's coolest dictator," is set to meet with President Trump at the White House on Monday. This marks the first official visit by a Latin American leader to the Oval Office since Trump assumed the presidency.
Bukele has emerged as a key ally for Trump in the region, openly backing the administration’s hardline immigration stance. With Bukele's cooperation, U.S. authorities have recently deported and detained hundreds of suspected Venezuelan and Salvadoran gang members, returning them to El Salvador.
Last month’s first deportation flight to El Salvador — ending in a transfer to the country’s infamous mega prison — was heavily promoted, with Bukele sharing a professionally produced video of the operation on social media.
