Kougaiji stood there, completely silent, as he stared intently at Yaone with an unreadable expression as he listened to her explain and apologize for her careless mistake that put his sister in danger.
He could tell Yaone was really beating herself up over this, she always took everything way too personally and would always berate herself more harshly than anyone else ever would. That was her nature, after all. She was way too caring for her own good. It was part of the reason why Kougaiji admired her so and made him grateful to have her on his side as his loyal companion.
Yes, he was very upset that his precious sister had been injured while under Yaone’s care and she had failed in her duty. But Kougaiji also knew that in the years that they’ve been together, this was her first bad slip up. And everyone made mistakes. He couldn’t even stay mad at her for long, seeing how repentant and in pain she was over her mistake, Kougaiji couldn’t help but almost instantly forgive her.
"I forgive you Yaone, mistakes happen. But try not to let it happen again," Kougaiji finally spoke up, in a soft but firm tone. He reached out and gave Yaone’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze before walking past her and into the room where Lirin slept.
Thankfully the demoness was skilled with medicine, if not who knew just what might have happened. The simple fact that Lirin had been hurt while in her care was enough to tear the woman apart inside, or rather leave her tearing herself up. She'd been lucky this time, they both had. If it had been more severe...
She didn't even want to think of how long injuries would have had to take for a full recovery if they'd been unlucky.
Hands kept her face hidden from view, blocking the tears that were swimming in her eyes. What could she do? What could she say? It terrified her, the mistake she made, especially with the thought it might happen again. What if Kougaiji-sama no longer trusted her after this...?
"A-ah...?!" Eyes widened and she lowered her hands a little. He... forgave... her? "Y-yes, Kougaiji-sama!" She gave a deep quick bow at his words. He was still trusting her, even with a mistake like that? Part of her felt relieved, a much larger part felt unworthy as she gave a deep bow, saying nothing as he walked to the room, waiting until he was at the door before she straightened up again.
