no one gives a shit if you call yourself queer. just stop acting like its not a fucking slur when it has such a violent history ties to it. why do you care sooooo much if other people are ok with calling themselves queer or not?? why does a strangers personal level of discomfort seem “immature” to you? stop pretending as if youre so much more radical then other lgbt people because youre ok with reclaiming a slur, stop shaming people who cant do that because of the violence that word holds

Actually, the whole premise of your angry snark is wrong. The 15yo was specifically forbidding me from using the word ‘queer’ for myself, and then started to send me anon hate when I refused to tag my own identity as a slur. I’m done with feeling ashamed of who I am, thanks. 

‘Queer’ being a slur that’s so much worse than those others slurs like ‘dyke’ and ‘faggot’ is actually a TERF & exclusionist thing. It comes from TERFs. The reason faggot and dyke are not FORBIDDEN is because they’re very exclusionist terms. You’ll often seen rad fems refer to themselves as dykes in the same breath as they say ‘queer’ is a violent word and a slur that we are not allowed to use. Queer is a beautiful term that includes ace people, bisexual folks, non-binary folks, intersex and other folks that routinely get excluded by exclusionists. 

You’d probably want to brush up on your queer history and the empowering history the word ‘queer’ also has before you blow your mouth off at someone for insisting they have the right to use it. It is a violent word - we’ve been fighting under the banner of it for our own rights for decades. It’s our word, now - and yet TERFs and exclusionists would have us give it back to the people who hate us after everything it’s done for us! :)

Furthermore, ‘queer’ is a word that is used all over the globe - not as a slur, but as the correct, appropriate term. For example, in Australia.
