Logic question:...how was Delphi (or rather, Euphemia) able to avoid being detected by the Trace? According to what we know, the trace would have detected any magic performed around a minor and it’s unlikely that Euphemia never used magic for all the years Delphi was in her home. So the ministry MUST have been aware that there was a minor at her house? And no one ever checked up on her? Even if we assume she was not abused, was no one ever…curious about where this child came from? Did Euphemia pretend she was her child/grandchild/niece/etc.? 🤔 Did they just believe that, without checking, at all?

Aw, this was a fun fic, thanks for asking about it! This is a story that only exists in a moment in time for me. I've noticed that from the reader's end (this applies to me as for sure!) there's a strong want to know what happens next in an open-ended story—and, heck, patching in this unknown is the root of a lot of good fanfic. But when I'm on the author side of it, I usually feel like a story works because it exists in some moment of tension or focuses on a particular period of a character's life.
Seeing Delphini go through school happy/healthy with a father who is never actually taken away from her would undo the fear that the fic builds up. Seeing Voldemort arrested/killed and Delphini thrown into the chaos of orphanhood removes the focus from how her father shaped her childhood. The first isn't emotionally interesting to me in the way this fic is, and the second is certainly a story but not the type that I tell.
Like, I want Delphini to keep her dad and I want Tom to continue to lovingly raise his daughter and grow past his life as Voldemort. But that's not this story, which ultimately exists for me in the constraints of those eleven years! ❤️
