reminder that stina and della have approval for a spyball but alden does not
i just made a post about it but could you imagine if biana had some of keefe’s story. mainly the experimentation thing. something something della sees herself as pygmalion and biana as galatea
"Just" aha. ha. um. nobody go looking for the timestamp on that post 😬
I do agree though! I think Biana is one of the kotlcrew with the least unique complexity to her character and story. By which I mean nothing stands out very strongly as specifically hers. Sophie's got her whole deal, so does Keefe, Dex has his stigmatized background, Wylie's got his ordeals, Marella's got pyrokinesis, Tam and Linh have similar backgrounds but very different experiences of it. But most of what Biana has re: being a Vacker is relegated to Fitz. Her experience of being a Vacker is slightly different, yes, but not to a strong enough extent to really distinguish her
all of that to say! adding or shifting things around could help that! realistically would be something like a rebel phase or a more obvious different experience being a vacker as a third child or something, but we can also imagine further--like with this
this could take della's character into a place where the pressure of joining the vacker family has gotten to her, and so in her daughter she tries to create perfection to cope. to perhaps prove her own place in the vacker family through her, by creating her
that could easily translate to fertility concerns pre-conception like with Lady Gisela, or to very strict and specific expectations growing up that are unachievable. a sort of calculating approach tinged with desperation. fooling herself into thinking this isn't experimenting, it isn't too far, it's still within the realm of moral and acceptable.
many ways to take it! all very interesting 🙂↕️
della is such a snobby noble in neverseen i’m kicking my feet and giggling she’s so brainwashed <3333

aldella response to the trauma of having their son be a traitor :(
they cried :(
i want to know more about why della can do the water vanishing thing because that seems like such a niche skill that she picked up? and it's implied that she is one of the only, if not the only, vanishers that can do it. how did she realize that was even a thing that could be done? and what other substances can she do it with? if she can make light and water travel through her, could she do it with like, earth or wind or even fire? this suggests some similarities between vanishing and phasing to me . . . i feel like the two are pretty strongly linked in terms of genetics maybe
also. it's interesting that she can do the water vanishing skill but couldn't hide herself from gnomes even when biana tried to teach her. i feel like della's traditionality bleeds through in this sense . . . probably the water vanishing thing is something that can be learned with enough dedication and practice, and by following a set "formula" for vanishing, but biana describes the hiding from gnomes thing as "something you have to discover for yourself" which to me feels like more of a think-outside-the-box kind of skill that della probably doesn't possess
these are messy thoughts that make way more sense in my head but idk
I have a few headcannons about our conversational Vacker man, Alden.
I think Alden gets way to much hate for being a parent, and people seem to forget get the the toxic nature of the Vacker family didn’t start with Alden.
I'm not saying that Alden is a good parent, we know he's negligent, but we know he cares. It feels like- especially if you re-read his scenes with Della- he was never ready for kids. So when he had them, as he was expected too, he had no idea what to do with them.
I haven't seen anyone propose the idea that Alden could've had a really shitty childhood.
We know the extened Vacker family would lickley be extremely pushy, and it could explain why the vacker kids are so fucked. Alden would push them to do well at anything they could, and push them to be the best; not because he cares wether they are, but because he knows how the rest of the world looks at you when you aren't.
Idk, we seem to forget that adults can be fucked as well in media, without being abusive. That trauma and issues can come from places other then just parents.
How would the vacker kids have faired with Alina as the principal? How does the rest of the elven world actually treat the Vackers (because Sophie is not a good POV for that)? We know so little about what happens in the that house, and with that family, and I think we're all to quick to forget that their are other 6000 years worth of Vackers alive. All with their own opinions, wants, goals, and plenty of time to learn how to manipulate their kids into what they want.
I have more on Alden/Della and the whole Quinlin thing, but needs it's own post to fit all the headcannons.
