Idea for soulmate Friday: A routine is shared between you. Like if you have a bedtime routine your soulmate is forced to follow it. And you’re forced to follow their routine for hot chocolate making or something. Any pairing!
“What’s your routine?” Was a common question among many people. It was after all how you found your soulmate. Oh sure, you could ask ‘hey what is your routine’ for skincare or hair or whatever, but most of them time people were curious about what you did specifically to figure out if they could match you to their own.
Sometimes it was obvious, what was your own choice to do and what was not. Sometimes it wasn’t.
Everyone hears the story about so and so’s cousin or aunt or sister or friend who had never figured out that their teeth brushing routine wasn’t actually theirs until the hyper specific routine they had for their bedtime was revealed to be what their soulmate was forced to do.
Izuku figured he was one of the lucky ones. He knew exactly what his routine was.
Every morning when he woke up, he was drawn right to the bathroom to begin the elaborate skin care routine his body was forced to do. Cleanser, toner, serum, eye cream, face cream, sun lotion. But it went deeper to. He had to have an exact brand, had to moisturizer his nose first then his cheeks then his forehead. He had to use a microfiber cloth, and a special headband for his hair.
It was repeated at night, Izuku drawn into a skincare routine so elaborate then with red light therapy he sometimes wanted to groan.
Did that stuff actually work? (Various Google searches had no clear results so he just put up with it.)
Izuku never talked about his routine despite knowing what it was. He never was asked nor did he see a point in bringing it up. He was scared people would make fun of him, and so he kept quiet.
At least until he got to UA and moved into the dorms. Seeing Iida make a cup of coffee with several pumps of syrup (vanilla, mint and chocolate) and two expresso shots before drinking it with a shudder had been the spark.
“Man my soulmate eats their pizza weirdly,” Kaminari said. “They take off all the toppings, eat it first, then begin eating the crush and then the rest of it.”
“Isn’t it technically all crust?” Sero asked.
“Yeah but you know what I mean.” Kaminari said.
“My heart’s match has a most in depth routine full of darkness-“ Tokoyami began but Dark Shadow interrupted him.
“Whoever it is drink hot chocolate with peppermint sticks stirred in counterclockwise, never clockwise, a dash of nutmeg, three marshmallows and enough whip cream to just fill the top but not to much to make it cold.” Dark Shadow declared.
(Izuku saw Todoroki flush and he made a mental note to corner his friend later over that, because he was pretty sure the gothic poetry reading before bed routine Todoroki did wasn’t his choice.)
“My soulmate has a thing about their desk. It has to be set up a certain way,” Uraraka admitted. She turned to Izuku. “What about you?”
“Skincare,” Izuku admitted. “I have to use Rocky Mountain imported from Canada, have to use exactly three drops of serum on each cheek, a red light at night and use Super Silk Sun lotion.” He shrugged at the looks.
“Oh! That’s why you have such nice skin,” Uraraka said. She looked a bit sad and Izuku would have asked but Ashido suddenly was jumping at him.
“Midoriya! When you have a new notebook, do you have to write your name at the top of each page, scratch a number on the inside cover, and tap it twice with your left hand?” She demanded.
“What- I… OH!” Izuku stared at Ashido in shock. “… what’s with the red light?”
“Oddly enough it does help with the acid I produce through my sweat. No we don’t know why,” Ashido admitted. She grinned widely a second later. “We’re soulmates!” She squealed.
Izuku blinked and felt a smile cross his face.
He didn’t mind this outcome.
