Understanding German University Degree Types
Most German degrees follow the Bologna system for international compatibility. A Bachelor's Degree is the first academic degree, typically taking 6-8 semesters (3-4 years). A Master's Degree offers specialized knowledge and takes 2-4 semesters (1-2 years). For regulated professions like Medicine or Law, you'll need a State Examination (Staatsexamen), or you can pursue a research-focused PhD (Promotion).
