By far the best part of historical research is finding two people whoĀ said the same thing 200 years apart and I get to slam the opinions of a rich aristocrat and a tumblr blogger together.Ā

Iām rummaging around in archives for photographs of radio use which - while mainly boring - sometimes produces gems like this.
Just three gal pals listening to some tunes.Ā
Oh shit I got my unit results back and I just scraped a high distinction for all my units I have worked so hard having a full time job and being at uni full time simultaneously (and also juggling brain problems and crippling grief) I can't believe it's kind of working and I might manage first class honours after all One semester to go
So the first reading for my Honours group was HeideggerĀ
I would have even accepted Derridaās garrulous discourse - but HEIDEGGER?
A MAN WHO IS NOT ONLY INCOHERENT IN THE EXTREME, BUT A LITERAL UNAPOLOGETIC N A Z I ?Ā
heiDEGGER
I understand the argument that much is lost in their translation, but his works read like they were translated by a man yelling the original German lectures - from inside a wind turbine - to a Frenchman (on the moon) who is trying to LIPREAD HIM and happens to know only a handful of English words, three of which are variations of the wordĀ āthingā
I look into the eyes of children - now rendered pure by not having been subjected to Heidegger - and I WEEP FOR WHAT I HAVE LOSTĀ
oh truly did folly rode wildly on the tiger of youth - I did not see my pre-Heidegger days for the gift that they were
I HOPE HEIDEGGER IS IN HELL BECAUSE WHEN I DIE I WANT NOTHING MORE THAN TO D E S C E N D AND FIGHT HIM FOR ALL ETERNITYĀ
why am I paying 3 grand for a unit in which the professor exclusively refers to photos asĀ āpixā

god iām in week one of my masters because apparently a joint bachelor & honours degree isnāt enough to get me out of retail
iām so sick of academia none of itās realĀ
ughughughhguh i have to formulate another research proposal as part of my mastersĀ
i already wrote a dissertation for my honours i donāt wanna do it agaaaiiin
Iām having such a hard time deciding on my thesis ugh. Help?
1. The history of urban gardening in AustraliaĀ
PROS: I enjoy it. Itās a less common choice for applicants, so it would stand out from the rest. Itās local aspect might endear me to some kind of job opportunity?
CONS:Ā Could get tired of it quickly. Restrictive in its scope.
2. A social history of the Age of Sail
PROS: Definitely the area of history that I know the most about. Plenty of options for a topic. Probably the era iām most interested in.Ā
CONS: Not local, would probably have difficulty finding a mentor for it. A topic which is common, not sure whatĀ ānewā information my research would reveal. Maybe too broad also.Ā
3. Science Fictionās portrayal or utopias/dystopias and what they reveal
PROS: I know a lot on the topic; I know for a fact that the head of the history department would volunteer to be my mentor. Would get to do a joint honours in english too (very desirable, double the choice in classes)
Ā CONS:Ā Not local, perhaps not practical either. Iām aware that this topic has been covered before, not sure what new thing I could reveal.Ā
