There's a lot of Dutch immigrants in Canada it seems to be a thing. Like my parents live in an area that has a lot of Dutch families. There is a elementary and a secondary dutch immersion school, multiple stores that specifically import food and stuff from the Netherlands, and the librarys all have sections with dutch books. A lot of us who live there jokingly call it 'little Holland'

Yeah ok but when was the last time we did that!? xD

@deflyingdutchman apparently :/ I am increasingly convinced of the idea that a lot of people involved in so/ci/al ju/sti/ce stuff just want an excuse to be the ones bullying others rather than the ones being bullied. Because shit like what is going down now is not okay on any level but whenever you try to point it out they try to pull some reason out of thin air as to why bullying someone is the right thing to do.

My grandparents are from Overijssel right near the border with Germany I believe but I’m not sure of the exact area of the province or how much if my family is still in the area. Waaaay back when my family was german then they immigrated to the Netherlands and then to Canada. My parents are actually both the first generation to be born in Canada. Well my mom is kind of, my grandma immigrated from England after WWII but my grandpa’s family were loyalists who left the US when it seceeded from Britain.

@deflyingdutchman my dad's side, which is the side of thr family I'm around the most, is yeah. My oma and opa actually met each other on the boat they took from Holland to Canada. I've picked up a bit of dutch from them and my dads siblings, though none of my relitives other than my grandparents are fluent. It actually still gives me pause sometimes when I read the name because I'm not sure how to pronounce
