New Orleans, La Louisiane, Early 19th Century
♫♫♫ ; ) Bonsoir, I am showing y'all the Crescent City in the early 19th century (with a limit of 30 screenshots). This is part 2 of showing the American portions of my save (I use Henford on Bagley, Ravenwood, and Windenburg as England), as part 1 showed Philadelphia. I've been working on and off for the past two years with the American parts of my save, and New Orleans is done for the most part. I have not built the Ursuline Convent or Orleans Ballroom (where the Quadroon Balls were held) yet, because I don't know where to build them, as I'd need to free up space. I've used all lots in Willow Creek, Magnolia Promenade, and Newcrest (aside from the 20x20 in Magnolia Promenade) for this project. I am aware that the city was not as colorful until after the Civil War, and much of the architecture was plain white Spanish Stucco (after it burned down twice in the 18th century due to the French using wood), but I wanted the city to look somewhat like it does today in terms of color. I used TOOL and Blowtorch to afforest the city. Every building that you can see is located within the city of New Orleans, aside from the raised Creole cottages. Those are located in St. James Parish (mainly Vacherie) in my save. I used Foundry Cove and Courtyard Lane in Willowcreek as a space to build a bunch of Creole Cottages for my affluent families of color (including a VooDoo Shop). I took inspiration from Faubourg Marigny. I used Crawdad Quarter and all of Newcrest and Magnolia Promenade as the French Quarter, and Pendula View as the Garden District. I was HEAVILY inspired by two of my favorite period dramas, The Courage to Love and The Feast of All Saints, with the landscaping and the architecture. They also portray the Plaçage system very well and depict the internal and external struggles of the Gens de couleur libres accurately. I also used the Creole part of my American 19th Century Pinterest board for help as well. Some notable landmarks you can see are the St. Louis Cathedral (as it was in the late 18th and early 19th centuries before the Gothic Revival renovation in the 1850s), the French Opera House, City Park, and cemeteries 1, 2, and 3. I wish they gave us a world that was just swampland only, as I'd have built settlements for Cajuns and Maroons. I may turn Moonwood Mill into a bayou, but for now, I plan to use it for the Pennsylvania countryside around Philly. I hope y'all enjoyed this, and as a Deep Southerner myself, I tried to give the city justice within the Sims. I will show Jamaica (Sulani) next when I finish!
