For the fanfic meme: P, R, X!!!!!
P: Where did you find the most inspiration for your story < insert title >?I think you were supposed to give me a specific fic title here XDDD
R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?I used to write shit since I was little but the moment where I think it all shifted into something that could be considered good for my age was secondary school/high school and at that time I was heavily influenced by writing style of Andrzej Sapkowski and Chuck Palahniuk. Like, I am aware I was copying them in my writing at that time and today I can still recall that :’) I loved how Sapkowski described characters and gave them little quirks (how Geralt had a whole range of smiles he would give to people depending on whom he interacted with). From Palahniuk I was trying to mimic his pacing and dialogues and… how bold he was with gore. Some of that have stayed with my writing until now. Later on, when I moved to writing in English, the process shifted a little. I already had somewhat of a style of storybuilding but now I also had to apply it to a language that wasn't my native. That process was mostly taking all the little things I loved linguistically in what I read in English and trying to use them myself so it's hard to pinpoint specific people. This part is mostly a linguistic osmosis of all the novels and fics I've read in English for the past 8 years XDDD
X: How would you categorize your fanfic reading? Are you a voracious reader? Do you carefully pick and choose? Something in between?I noticed I have two moods – sometimes I shift into novel mode and inhale books that have been piling up and listen to lots of audiobooks and barely touch any fics; then out of nowhere I'm jumping into a full fic mode, books are gathering dust and I have 50+ ao3 tabs open on my phone and I'm inhaling this shit like there's no tomorrow. In that latter mood, I am a voracious fic reader indeed. When it comes to being picky, I admit there are some tags I won't touch unless it's from an author I trust. But generally, as I am someone traumatized by rareshipping, I often take what I can get and I do read all the way through a lot of fics that by the end of it were so subpar that I have to think it through if even a kudos is deserved. (Sometimes it's a also a training in actually seeing with my own two eyes what doesn't work so that I don't even try to do it in my writing.) If by chance I am currently obsessed with a more popular ship with more content, I become a little more picky and sometimes just close the fic after a couple of paragraphs because I know there are a lot more to go through >>> here are the questions if anyone else feels like asking me :3
