When you’ve been taught all your life to put people before you, it really can become a struggle to break out of that as you get older. Especially when you’re trying to figure out your own self simultaneously. You learned to push your ideas and passions to the side to help other people reach theirs. Your lock up your emotions so other people can vent to you about theirs. All of those feelings need to come out eventually. And they will. All at once. When you least expect it. Now you’re not sure of if you’re the way you are because that’s what you wanted or if that’s what other people turned you into. Then you start to realize everyone got a part of you but YOU. You get upset at yourself because you realized that you were letting people have this power to hurt you. You knew they didn’t care for you the way you cared for them but because of your upbringing and the person you are, you still help them. You go into a hole for a long while because now you’re burnt out and you feel like the ones who should’ve fueled you aren’t even there to notice you on the side of the road. Then you start learning how to put yourself first. You learn how to navigate by yourself. You learn how to love yourself by caring for yourself by yourself. You learn who is really around you because they genuinely fuck with you as a person and not for whatever status they think you have. You learn that you maybe don’t like to clean your room all at once and instead in intervals. I can give examples all damn day, but my point is that becoming an adult is about acknowledging your own faults and learning from them. It’s VERY easy to blame other people for everything that goes wrong in your life. The hard part is recognizing your own faults, your own involvement in your depression... however, once you recognize the problem, it’ll be easier to break down the causes and find a solution. & you’ll be able to finally bloom.
