Usually, noise made him nervous— there was safety in the quiet, in the absolute knowledge that quiet served a purpose. Even if it wasn’t extensively loud, he tries to kick the jitters and the feeling of jinxing safety by engaging in vulnerability, like the rest of them. Is it vulnerable to come as you are? When there’s safety in numbers, he doesn’t think there’s any other way. The overlook is what he’s used to; eyes keen on always finding something but there’s nothing here but bodies. Alive, joyous, celebratory. The best he can do is not add to the anxiety of everyone else, too used to trauma to hang onto the idea of hope. But there’s a small part of him that’s happy about it. Fifteen years is a long time. And as they pass by, they blend together, and a part of him still feels like time hasn’t passed. He might be the only one.

He decides that if the others are going to take the night off, he can at least try and follow by example. For the first time in forever, he removes his blade and sticks to a wheelchair, the prosthetic slung over the back of the chair. Can never be too careful. He’s never been to a party before and he isn’t sure what he’s supposed to do: talk to people, sit in the corner and drink? Alcohol has never been something he thinks highly of, given the situation— but he decides he can do anything else.

He busies himself by wheeling back and forth or in circles, either easing the tension of his companions or adding to their confusion: either way, he hopes it’s a welcome distraction. He nudges the reader with his good leg, prodding at their calf with his boot.

HEADCANONS -

was born yet not raised by his biological parents, his grandmother from his mother’s side raised him. his parents individually were the type to be out and about and never settled for what they’ve had because it was never enough for them.

as much a loving experience it was, the upbringing with his grandmother unfortunately wouldn’t follow him through out the rest of his youth because she’d soon pass and when that time came, he had to experience a non-loving experience when it came to the foster system which would only transition to group homes, worsening.

he was easy to take advantage of growing up, he wasn’t strong mentally nor physically, he’d be the butt of a joke to his peers growing up.

peer pressure also caused him to get int trouble with the law but then he didn’t need the peer pressure anymore because his actions were now wired to be the troublemaker he became.

platonic and romantic relationships following his adulthood never were stable, he always ruined good things because he unfortunately was never used to stable.

when the world went dark, he navigated by smooth talking his way which worked in his favor but also not in his favor and would get him in trouble, he’s had experiences with many surviving groups before he got to new eden and ended up having to run away because he choose to run away with the things he wanted selfishly.

he’s seen how nice guys do finish last during his time and that’s why he acts the way he does to get the last laugh of it all.

but grandmother’s boy he used to be is someone that he still has in him deep down. so even if he does questionable things and can seem untrustworthy, he’s still a little boy at heart.

HEADCANONS - (TW: LIGHT MENTIONS OF TEEN PREGNANCY + CHILD LOSS)

the disappointment child out of her siblings who’s parents first and last strike was her teen pregnancy within years after the world went dark.

with how the new world became, her parents couldn’t fathom how she could find genuine love and bring a child into this world all at her young age. they didn’t hesitate to let her go, it was embarrassing, they still held onto their reputations even if the world was no longer the same and the people weren’t.

the father of her unborn child’s family didn’t hesitate to accept her and take her in. her love for them as well as the father of her child was of something of a fairytale, truly. and no one would have expected it.

at twenty-six she was lucky to have been able to have a second pregnancy with the father of her first child and husband. but unlucky, when that baby died in her arms and wouldn’t get to experience life further.

after the loss of her newborn, it just seemed like things were written for her to be doomed from the start. it was one night when more lives coexisting with hers wouldn’t be able to experience life further too, her husband, her daughter, her in-laws and nearly her life were taken when runners were in their space and every member of her family except her were exposed with a bite, they’ve managed to off the runners but— what was done was done.

jia had to be the one to make sure that her family didn’t progress to be what they had been fighting against, they couldn’t do the deed themselves, they didn’t even want her to do it but they knew she had to do it, she knew she had to do it, she didn’t want them to turn and be out there like those things.

just because she did it, it didn’t mean it was easy. but it’s like something switched, because her demeanor after doing such a deed… it was not what would one expect.

the night of it all, she left them behind as she had no choice but she also had left the city they were in, her whole life.

nothing to her name, everything would be fresh as she entered a fresh new world, new eden. on the way there, more bodies caught by her whether one of those things or human, it didn’t matter, she had accepted what she needed to do to see what else would be out there for her.

her current role as leader for the cut in new eden did not come to her as soon as she step foot in new eden. she worked her way up to the role, showing out others and showing that she’d be ready to take that assertive role and lead others in a way that others couldn’t or wouldn’t risk to do. she had nothing to lose. no one to lose.

jia has the mindset to win every battle she faces but the reality of it is that she’s not sure she can win the war within herself.
