You were a person who held your words and promises, and just like you had promised, you took it upon yourself to tutor and watch after Sanemi-senpai's younger siblings while your senpai was working his part-time job or studying for his own upcoming exams.

His younger siblings were absolute angels. They were kind and polite, a little wild, but otherwise they acted very well. It all reminded you a little of how you used to help your classmates with their studies back then, when you were just a kid.

So, your senpai introduced you to his younger siblings, Genya, Teiko, Hiroshi, Sumi, Shuya, and Koto. You were a little nervous at first, fearing that his siblings shared their eldest brother's temper, but they were angels, honestly.

Teiko, Hiroshi, Sumi, and Shuya were easy to teach, and little Koto was a kind and cute little kid who clung to you like a koala bear clung to a tree. Not that you minded, he was very light and cute.

Only one who had harder studies was actually Genya, the second-oldest Shinazugawa.

It made sense that his school stuff was harder than his younger siblings', as he wasn't much younger than Sanemi or you...

But damn, this kid was super smart! You had never seen anyone adopt the calculation method you showed him so quickly, and he was very hardworking, just like his older brother.

So once Teiko, Hiroshi, Sumi, and Shuya were done with their homework and tutoring classes, they spent their time doing what they liked, while you taught and tutored Genya with his more advanced studies.

"Wow, Genya, I'm impressed!" You nodded as Genya finished the calculations you had given him in record time. The young man nodded as he handed the paper for you to check for any mistakes or such.

"T- Thank you..." He thanked you in such a small voice, "Do you do these calculations often...?"

"Every day," You replied, "Though most of them feel pretty useless in normal everyday life. But dang, you're smart one Genya!"

"You're..." He nodded slightly, humbly, "You're really smart also."

"I have to be," You replied as you checked the answers on the mock exam you just held for him, "I don't have any money, so I need to work hard to keep my scores up or risk being kicked out of the school."

"Ah, you're the same as us..." The young man nodded, and you frowned slightly...

"Yeah..." You nodded, "I guess we are the same in our own ways..."

There was a small silence between you two... But then you smiled and put the mock exam down before Genya.

"You got full scores!" You gave him a smile and a thumbs up, "You're going to nail the real exam when it comes!"

"T- Thank you!" Genya smiled, and what a sweet sight it was.

"You're welcome!" You glanced at the clock and noted that it was getting late. Sanemi-senpai should come home any minute soon...

"I'd better get dinner started..." Genya muttered as he got up, but you quickly stopped him, "I can cook something for you all?"

"You can cook?" He asked, and you nodded, "Yeah, it's like second nature for me."

"But you don't need to, you already tutored us-!"

"Feeding you guys won't bother me," You said as you walked past him, heading to their kitchen, and Genya quickly followed after you.

"I- I don't know if there is any food in the fridge-!"

You opened the fridge, and sure, they didn't have much, but they had enough for you to whip up something for them to eat and fill their tummies with.

"Just give me a second and get your stomachs ready!"

You left Genya no room to argue, and instead, he went to see what his siblings were up to. They had some instant noodles, but you wanted to make it a little healthier for them, so you picked a bag of frozen veggies and proceeded to stir-fry the veggies and noodles together.

It took a short moment, but during that moment, you managed to cook something to eat, and with that moment, the Shinazugawa family was sitting by the table, waiting for food.

"I'm not sure if it's good enough..." You said as you served the meal to the table, "But it's somewhat healthy at least?"

"Ooh, looks so good!" Teiko and Sumi smiled as they helped themselves with serving, followed by the boys filling their plates also. You watched them eat, nervous if you had made enough food for everyone...!

But it appeared to be enough, and they even left some leftovers!

"Thank you for the delicious meal!" They all thanked you, and you were stunned, "Wow, was that really enough for you?"

"It was!" Hiroshi and Shuya nodded, and you looked, and there was at least enough for a person or two.

"There is still some left..."

"Can we wrap it up?" Sumi asked, and you blinked, slightly confused, "For later?"

"Knowing our mother and brother, they haven't eaten yet again!" Shuya exclaimed, and your eyes widened as you realized that they had left food for a reason.

"Of course!" You nodded with a smile, and you put the rest of the noodles and veggies on two separate plates before putting them into the fridge.

"Alright, I think it's time for me to head home myself," You said as you glanced at the clock on the wall and you headed towards the apartment's entrance.

"Ah, thank you for tutoring and feeding us!" Genya quickly thanked you with a deep bow, and you smiled, "It was nothing! You guys are honestly so nice and super smart also!"

"Will you come back again soon?" Teiko asked from around the corner, and you smiled as you nodded, "Yeah! It's my pleasure being here and helping you guys!"

"Bye bye!" Little Koto waved at you, and you happily waved back at him as you left. Honestly, while your Sanemi-senpai was pretty scary, the rest of the Shinazugawa family were rather sweet. You wouldn't mind tutoring them in the future.

Later, once you were long gone, Sanemi made his way home late at night. His younger siblings were already sleeping, and he was both tired and hungry.

So he headed to see if there was anything in the fridge for him, and he saw the stir-fried noodles and veggies on a plate. He grabbed a plate without hesitation and put it into the microwave to heat it up, and once warm, he absolutely devoured the meal.

"Brother...?"

Sanemi flinched as he looked and saw his younger sister Sumi rubbing her sleepy eyes.

"Sumi..." Sanemi frowned, "You should be sleeping. It's school night."

"You're eating...?"

"Yeah," He nodded, "This is delicious. Thank you."

"Your friend made it." She said, and the young man's eyes widened, "They fed you?"

"Yeah, it was really good." Sumi smiled, "So we saved some for you and mom."

"I..." Sanemi was speechless, both by the kindness of his own family and yours. You had no reason or obligation to feed his family, and yet you had done so.

"Go to sleep." He ordered, and the young girl nodded, "Okay... But be kind to them, okay? They were really nice to us."

"I..." Sanemi swallowed his pride and nodded, "I'll thank them, so don't worry."

"Thank you, brother." With that, Sumi headed back to the bed, leaving her brother fuming as he felt in debt to you.

But wasn't this what it was to be a Hashira? To be there for each other, and when someone needed help? Feeling in debt didn't settle well with Sanemi's stomach, but he couldn't deny that you had seriously helped him and his family.

You couldn't believe it. You were frozen as you stared at the board before you, students around you checking their own profiles and scores. Your ranking had gone up almost three whole levels!

Then you realized that your grades got better once you were invited, or kinda forced to join Hashiras. Not only did you get better treatment from literally anyone, but they had kept their word, and your status in school skyrocketed!

You carefully made your way out of the mass of students and rushed towards your clubroom. Once there, you slammed the door open, too excited to hold yourself back.

"Did you see my scores!?" You yelled, but the smile on your face let them all know that you were overjoyed.

"Congratulations, Ten!" Mitsuri cheered as she rushed to hug you, and you squealed happily as you both jumped up and down together.

"Pipe it down, you guys!" Sanemi snapped, his nose buried in the textbooks before him, "Some of us are trying to study!"

"Ah, sorry, Sanemi-senpai!" You let go of your friend and turned to smile at Shinobu, "Thank you for helping me by testing my knowledge before that biology exam!"

"It was my pleasure," Shinobu giggled, "With the way you are climbing the ranks, we might have to call you Eight soon!"

"In your dreams," Obanai scoffed, but you didn't take his words to heart.

"Congrats, newbie!" Tengen laughed, and with that, he earned a harsh glare from Sanemi, and the Sound Hashira completely ignored his colleague's glare.

"I knew you could do it!" He continued before patting your back with enough force to almost knock you down, like swatting a fly.

"Hm! Truly, it was the right choice to let you join us!" Kyojuro smiled as he glanced up at you from his bento box, which was mostly pure meat on rice, and then glanced at the biggest Hashira sitting next to him, "Right, Himejima?"

"Namu…" Gyomei nodded humbly, "It brings me joy to see you bloom under our care."

But… He couldn't see? Oh, it was just a figure of speech!

"What's all this noise about?"

You glanced over your shoulder and noticed that Giyu and Muichiro had arrived in the clubroom.

"Number Ten jumped a couple of ranks higher!" Mitsuri cheered from her place next to you, and you nodded, but before you could get a word out, Sanemi snapped, "Some of us are trying to study!"

"Nah, only you." Tengen grinned, yet you felt kinda bad because you were usually one in Sanemi's shoes.

"What are you studying for?" You asked as you made your way to Wind Hashira and glanced over his shoulder at the textbooks and notebooks he had laid on the table before him.

…But before you could get a decent look, the young man shut the books down and shot you a glare.

"Nothing!" He snapped, and you took a startled step back, "Sorry, I didn't mean to intrude-!"

"He is pissed because he has less time to study now that he started a part-time job," Giyu said as he took a seat at the table, already digging out his textbooks.

"Shut up!" The Wind Hashira shot a glare at his cool companion.

You wanted to ask, but you remembered how Sanemi had gotten mad the first time you met when talking about being born with silver spoons in your mouths.

Based on that, you were able to come to the conclusion that maybe just like you, he came from a poor family.

"You know, if you need money, I'm more than happy to lend you some?" Tengen asked, but then Sanemi glared at him, "I don't need your charity!"

"Why do you need a part-time job, Sanemi-senpai?" You asked, ready to receive yet another yell, but someone beat you to it.

"He has 6 younger siblings, and a mom who works two jobs," Obanai said as he gently petted his emotional support snake Kaburamaru.

"Oi!?"

"Ah-!" You understood what he was going through. You frowned as you tried to figure out a way to help him, just like how the Hashiras had helped you.

"Namu Amida Butsu…" Gyomei prayed quietly as tears rolled down his face, "Shinazugawa, please accept help if you need it…"

"I'll be fine…!" Sanemi growled, but you weren't accepting that. You pouted as you inhaled and exhaled, "Sanemi-senpai?"

"What is it now!?"

"Do you help your younger siblings with school?"

"Yeah, so what!?"

"I could help them?" You offered, much to everyone's surprise and especially Sanemi's.

"Huh!?"

"Listen, I could watch after them and help them with their homework while you work or rest? Either way, I want to help you out."

"What are you trying to get out of it?" He was so suspicious of you that it was almost worrying and amusing.

"Nothing," You shook your head as you smiled, "But you guys have helped me a ton, so the sensible thing to do is to return the favor?"

"That would be a wonderful idea, number Ten!" Kyojuro exclaimed, much to Sanemi's shock, and it just got bigger as each Hashira, one by one, agreed and ganged up against the Wind Hashira.

"Let Ten help you out!"

"It can't hurt to try?"

"You need a break, man!"

One by one, they spoke out, and Sanemi finally just snapped, "Fine!" He shot you a glare, "I'll be waiting for you after school in here! Don't you dare to be late or else I will kick your ass!"

"Sir, yes, sir!" You saluted him, and most of the Hashiras cheered, the rest nodding in approval, and Sanemi, whose glare finally died out a little as he focused back to his homework.

You swear, all you wanted was some place quiet so you could focus on your studies. One would think the library would be a perfect place for it, but with all these couples sucking faces there, there was barely any room for those who actually wanted to learn and graduate with top grades!

Why so serious about grades? Good grades meant a good diploma, and a good diploma was a guarantee key to a good job and a good future.

So, excuse you for wanting to make sure your future was as bright as it just possibly could be. You would find time for a relationship when your life was set first.

So you sought out some peace from this empty club room that didn't belong to any club and was pretty much abandoned. No one went there, except for you.

"Finally!" You sighed as you made it to the club room's entrance and made your way inside, "Some peace and quiet-!"

You never got to finish that sentence. As you opened the door, some people, probably your fellow students, turned to face you, and you froze.

You weren't sure who they were, but as you stared at them and they stared at you, you realized that you had walked into the school's elite students.

Or Hashiras, as the people called them. They were on top of the food chain, the cream of society, the future leaders of the country, and you, an ordinary student, interrupted them doing… What the Hell were they doing?

"Ah- Excuse me-!" You quickly tried to run and slam the door behind you, but a strong hand grabbed the door and held it open despite your attempts to close it.

"Hold it!" Sanemi Shinazugawa himself growled as he forced the door open enough to grab you and yank you into the club room before slamming the door shut.

You struggled to stay up on your feet, but you found yourself in the middle of the room, surrounded by the elite students.

"What's your business with us?" Obanai Iguro asked, no doubt frowning behind his mask and you swallowed nervously, "No- Nothing! I thought this room was empty!"

"Oh, right!" Shinobu Kocho gasped, "Pardon us, we weren't aware someone was using this club room!"

"Hm!" Kyojuro Rengoku nodded, "Our club room had a little accident, and we had to move rooms because of it!"

For some reason, everyone turned to look at Tengen Uzui. The man was popular among women and those alike, and came from a huge, wealthy family… Rumors said he had a thing for blowing things up.

"Not my fault!" The flamboyant man snapped, "How should I have known those things were volatile!?"

"It's exactly your fault…" Muichirio Tokito, one of the Tokito wonder brothers, sighed, and you swallowed nervously as you looked around you, taking in the Hashiras and their pristine uniforms and such. They truly lived up to their name and image. You never felt more out of place.

"I should go…" You bowed your head as you turned and moved to head to the door, but before you could make it, you were grabbed and spun around so fast you saw the whole room spin.

"Oh, don't leave just yet!" Mitsuri Kanroji smiled brightly like the sun itself, "You must have come here for a reason?"

"I- Uh-!" You swallowed nervously, "I was just…" Your voice fell quiet as you tried to talk, but found yourself too anxious.

"Speak up properly," Giyu Tomioka said, calm as ever, making you flinch and nod, "I- I was just trying to find a quiet place to study…"

"Namu Amida Butsu…" The school's largest student and most religious Gyomei Himejima rubbed his praying beads he carried everywhere he went.

"You're on the same grade as Uzui and me." He said, and you swallowed nervously as you nodded, "Y- Yes…"

"Oh yeah, I recognize you now!" Tengen laughed as he looked at you, "You're pretty smart, huh? Your name keeps popping up in the student ranking down the hall! What, you're in the Top 10 with us, aren't you? The last place?"

"I- I try my hardest…" You nodded humbly. You worked hard to get to that Top 10 while staying mostly invincible during your school life.

"Oh, you should totally join us!" Mitsuri suddenly said, and you felt your stomach drop at the suggestion. While the suggestion was more than flattering, you had nothing in common with these 9, other than your good grades.

"Kanroji, one can't just join us like that…" Obanai muttered quietly, but the pink-haired woman quickly looked at him, "Why not?"

"They aren't… Like us…"

"I appreciate the offer…" You nodded meekly, "But I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth… I'd only hold you back…"

"You think I grew up wealthy or such!?" Sanemi snapped, and you panicked, "I- I didn't mean it like that!"

"Calm down, Shinazugawa…" Giyu said, but the white-haired male turned to glare at his companion and throw some insults at him. It was well known that Sanemi didn't exactly like Giyu, but they still worked together.

"I'm sorry…" You apologized, "I didn't mean to come off as rude."

"Hm! No worries!" Kyojuro smiled, "We all have different backgrounds, but what brings us together is the bond we share!"

"O- Oh…" You nodded, followed by a flinch as the flamboyant Tengen started to circle around you.

"You know, you aren't that bad looking." Tengen hummed as he walked around you like a predator around their prey. You swallowed nervously again, and he stopped right in front of you… And he smirked, "All who vote to let the number 10 join us, raise your hand!"

"W- Wait- What-!?" You didn't even manage to finish the sentence as hands shot up, some quickly and some slower.

"Then it's decided!" Mitsuri smiled happily, "Number 10 joins us!"

"But I-!"

"This is a huge honor…" Gyomei nodded, "We welcome you to our ranks…"

"R- Really…?" You couldn't believe it. Were you dreaming? Because everyone dreamed of becoming Hashira… Everyone but you, but that was because you were realistic. It was not realistic to dream about joining the school's elite students.

"You know, being a Hashira would only do good for you." Shinobu smiled as she gently patted your shoulder, "Some of us have family and friends in high places or perhaps in the right places. Those precious people of ours could become handy for you also?"

Was she…? Was she telling you what you thought she was?

"And we could become good friends also!" Mitsuri said, and that shocked you more than what Shinobu had said.

Friends…? You hadn't had those since the day you moved into this city to study. You left all those people that you used to call friends behind you, once they suddenly started to avoid you like you were a bug or something equally unpleasant.

You were nervous, and you had many reasons to be that way. The biggest question was whether you were brave enough to take the hand they offered you and let them pull you to safety.

"I…" You nodded, finding new courage inside you that you didn't know you possessed, "I would be honored to become a Hashira."

"Great!" Mitsuri, Kyojuro, and Tengen cheered, and others smiled also, "Welcome to Hashiras, number 10."

One day, you snapped awake, finding yourself in a hospital bed. You had no idea how you had ended up there or what had happened to you.

Once awake, the nurses rushed to get the doctor to look at you, and you were informed that a traveler had found you unconscious in the woods and brought you to the hospital, where you laid unconscious for almost a full week.

You had no memories of how you ended up in the woods and…

You weren't sure if it was a dream or not… But you remembered this man, covered in tattoos. He stood out like a sore thumb, but what really caught your attention wasn't his tattoos or looks, but his strength.

You only met briefly, but you remembered clearly how he moved, and based on that, he clearly had gone through some sort of martial arts training… And you couldn't help yourself as you felt your heart beat harder in your chest.

But as your memories started to come back, you remembered him seeing you… And looking at you so, so…! Like you weren't worth his time.

It broke your heart, but also brought up new emotions in you…!

You admired that, you admired him!

This wasn't love, no. Not the traditional love, at least. You wanted to be just like him! Strong! Untouchable!

Not only that, you wanted recognition! You wanted him to see just how strong you could be, how strong you could become, and earn his respect!

…But it wasn't time for that yet. You weren't there yet. You still had a long way to go before you could call yourself worthy of challenging him.

You and Kyojuro are like flame and water, but while it may seem like a bad match, you make it work. It takes fire to heat up water, right?

Kyojuro can read you and your face like a book, and he isn't afraid to step up for you in case the cat called Anxiety gets your tongue, defending you or taking the load off your shoulders by drawing the attention to himself.

He also takes notice of how confined spaces make you nervous or how you grimace when the lady next to you is wearing too strong perfume. He will whisper to you to endure it, but as soon as opportunity peeks, Kyojuro grabs you and runs into an open place where the wind carries the strong scents off.

"There, much better!" He would laugh as he looked at you with those bright, happy eyes of his, "Now we can breathe!"

He would love to explore the world and wants to show you the whole world and its wonders, but he needs a moment to rest, and that is when you bring him down and let him know that it's okay to just relax and rest sometimes instead of always doing or going somewhere. You suggest to him a good book, and once he is done with it, he would happily and excitedly talk about plot, characters, and such with you.

While Kyojuro loves physical touch, it's one of his Love Languages, he understands that you are a little nervous about it. It's okay, because he also loves showering you with praises. Whatever you might do, he always compliments you and never fails to make you smile.

Then, one day, you initiate a hug, and Kyojuro's eyes would widen, and a huge smile would break out on his face. With your blessing, he will hug you back and even twirl you round couple of times!

"Hm! You make me so happy, my Flame! Let me hug you a little more!"

My pronouns are they/them and I’m pan!! I’m a rather humble and quiet person. I don’t like to step out too much. And I have a very hard time saying no to people so I often get stuck in situations I’d prefer not to be in. I want to be helpful but I wish I was able to stand up for myself more. Unfortunately I would describe myself as a pushover. I dislike large crowds but if it’s a group of people I know then it’s fine. I get overwhelmed very easily. Gyutaro isn't artistic himself, so he is always taken aback when he sees you create something new and amazing with what little supplies you have.

He has absolutely zero clue how to compliment someone. He is awkward and stumbles a lot, but God, he tries for you.

Trying doesn't mean he is good at it, but he likes to think he is learning little by little.

Gyutaro is taken aback by your talent for not only making art but also gorgeous outfits! Just how talented can one person be!? He is getting so jealous of you...!
