OH THIS IS WHERE IT WAS POSTED anyways erm I think I’m improving slowly
This is part of my upcoming comic! Emily is the ward/adopted daughter of Death XXI. She died in a fire as a child, (whoever "dies" in this universe just gets sent to the underworld, otherwise known as limbo or "the Beneath"), and Death XXI took her under his metaphorical (and literal) wing. Her form of teenage rebellion is to wear bright colours (usually yellow) and hang out with nice boys. She's a little fireball with a short fuse, pun intended.
A note on the world-building: When you die, you still age when you are in limbo. So, while Emily died when she was about 6, she has now grown into a sassy 17-year-old. Death XXI also has been getting older... but I'll tell you about that once I've fully designed his character. I also have ideas for his advisors and personal guards, so if you're interested in any of this or have any ideas that you'd like to share, please leave a comment! I'll try to respond to as many as I can.

here me out: Death is an ipad kid.
their parent was neglectful and literally just let him play on his ipad as a child, so they grew up as an awkward guy who just likes to draw on his ipad and watch slime videos on youtube. the parental controls were always on, so they never watched anything that was rated above PG-13. Thus, a skewed perception on how the world works, which is only furthered effed up by the fact that he's never left the underworld.
this leads to a very harsh reality check when he ascends to become the Ruler of the underworld and literally doesn't understand how mortality or dying in general works.

Ayup! This is Death the 21st (he/they) from my upcoming comic series! They are Emily's father figure, and also happen to be the ruler of the underworld. The thing is, he doesn't really know how to rule because their own parental figure (the previous Death) was neglectful and never taught them anything about ruling. For the most part, he just lets his advisors do all the work, which leads to a very corrupt government full of selfish, power-hungry fools.
Storytime! When they met Emily, it was one of the few times that Death was actually doing his job. He was processing dead souls to send on their way when he came upon Emily, a literal child that died in a fire. Until this point, he had no idea that children died. Like, he thought that Life would keep them at least until they finished childhood. But no. So they ended up taking Emily in so that she could finish her childhood happily before being sent to the Afterlife. Then, woopsies, he gets attached.
Also, I promised to explain how Death gets older in my last post: The thing is, Death is a Title and not a Name. It gets passed down like a royal line. In the Beneath/underworld, time still passes and people still age. Death the 21st is the latest in that line. Time still barely affects him, (his kind last for thousands of years), but they do still age.

It was with a certain degree of anxiety and anticipation that Feyd Rautha stayed at his Uncle’s side during the Vulcan Ambassador’s visit to Giedi Prime’s capital. He hated being so long in the old Baron’s company even if being there was further proof he was the chosen heir. He needed to listen and observe for the day he would one day rule in his uncle’s place even if he consciously had every intention of proving himself a Baron altogether different than his Uncle.
He did well. Able to charm the guests more than his uncle.
“Admittedly I’ve never had the pleasure of being off-world. But I’m curious what the difference is between Vulcan philosophy and that of say a Mentat. What are your thoughts on the subject, ambassador?”
