Dean Martindale
Martindale is an acclaimed photographer based in London. He specialises in fashion and commercial photography and is seen working with high-profile celebrities and people of pop culture such as Raheem Sterling, Gigi Hadid and Kate Moss. Having worked to his high position within the industry he has been given the opportunity to capture some of London’s most famous figures, ranging from footballers to models and singers. When asked of sources of influence he highlighted London as his main source of inspiration; the urban landscape and music, he likens it to clicking a switch inside his head to enable him to conjure up fresh ideas. He describes each of his shoots as a chance to explore new ideas and push new boundaries. One aspect of his work that defines him as a photographer is his originality. A prevalent challenge for photographers of this time period is to achieve uniqueness in your work. Martindale accomplishes this by incorporating the feel of his environment with the subject matter to achieve a fresh and striking result. His inventive use of the urban landscape of London instead of a studio in his photographs captures a more modern aesthetic with a grunge twist. Personally, what I enjoy the most about his photography is his minimal use of equipment to give a bold yet raw result. At just thirty-eight years old Martindale boasts much success in his industry, making him a highly sought-after photographer and I find him inspiring not only for his work but for his achievements.
